I am dancing with delight! Our mermaid skeleton came today--well, yesterday--it's late, and I am absolutely happy. I was worried that she would be a cheap piece of junk, but no. She is beautiful, articulated, and a sort of weird grayish color that rather suits a sea creature. We got her from Oriental Trading company, after my homemade mermaid tail for my skellie just up and died. I was hesitant to make the purchase, as I was afraid it would look tacky, but no. And, she was on sale. Squeeeeeee
I can't wait until the other shops start selling Halloween things again. I remember when they didn't do so until July-September. I have a wish list . Last year, someone stole our giant cauldron we put candy in for the TOTS. We need to replace that, and a few things that did not quite survive storage and the move. As it is, we no longer have the shed, so the skeletons and such are piling up in the new smaller house.
Yay for you! I bought her too! How could you not at such a good price? I wasn't too happy with her grey color, so I decided to corpse her up and she is so cool. She ended up being taller than me, I am so delighted. I've order some skeletons from OT in the past that haven't been as sturdy....but this one is definitely worth it.
WOW! I got 4 mermaids from there as well! I'm hoping for a pirate ship wreck this fall, a daughter wants to get married at the same time so its going to get hairy!
made the hair out of a mop cut in half and then dyed it.
Last year we purchased our little mermaid from our local Grocery Outlet store. She's only a little over two feet tall, and doesn't have the detailing of the larger version, but she's perfect for the Ariel tombstone we're going to make. (She's also only eight bucks, so for the cost we think she's really quite remarkable.) She had blue hair, but that's been removed and will be replaced with a nice orange wig. Where most of the folks are using their mermaids as a part of their pirate themed ventures, ours is actually going into our "Pet Semetery." Sure, the Little Mermaid was only half fish, but her tombstone is going to be relatively smaller than the regular graveyard, and she just seems a nice fit for a graveyard for animals that didn't turn out quite right.
