This is so annoying to me. It's bad enough to ruin awesome products with "happy halloween" or "spooky" or "witch's brew," (because I love to decorate realistically and a witch would never have a cauldron that said "witch's brew). But stuff like THIS really takes the cake. I suppose they didn't think our little minds would understand this is a HALLOWEEN cat and not a normal creepy black cat.

I think much of it is due to word art and labeling everything in sight being such a huge trend right now. Thanks, Pinterest.
Like all those pictures of organized pantries with everything in clear containers but you won't know it's macaroni in that jar unless you write it on it's little chalk board label. ;)

I agree with Madame Leota, it's just the current trend. I also never understood labeling a cauldron with any words. I'm OK with Happy Halloween but maybe that cauldron has witch's goulash in it, or soup, or stew.

The typography is cool on it's own but I agree that adding "Halloween Cat" is unnecessary. I guess the designer felt it needed clarified.

My biggest pet peeve is that every. single. tombstone in stores read "RIP". So few tombstones say that IRL!

HALLOWEEN CAT
CAT OF HALLOWEEN

We can't have any confusion here!

Yeah it's annoying and ruins otherwise interesting items.

Utesh says, Black cats are OBVIOUSLY Halloween cats! like DUH! GA-DOY! Get it together designers!

Sic Utesh on them! That cat would take care of those pesky merchandisers for you. :)

Boy, you're right about that...last night I was looking at the 5 new tombstones I bought this year, and every single one says "RIP". I picked up some styrofoam tombstones from At Home this year and although they're nice, I think every tombstone sold at At Home says the same thing - RIP.

Actually, I just remembered that I also picked up a cheap 4-pack of styrofoam tombstones from Target. They're kind of whimsical, so one says "BRB", one says "Vacancy" with a hand pointing down to the ground, etc. The others though...RIP. You have to really look to find something different.

At least RIP makes sense, though. What I hate are the tombstones sold at the Dollar Store that say "CREEPY" or "SPOOKY" on them. Why would you put that on a tombstone?

As long as we're airing our grievances.....I'd like to add....there is a special place for people who put price tags on the front of decorative items. I've had a few purchases this year where the very visible price tag decided to come off in shreds.
Is there anything worse than price tags that won't come off easily? WD-40 does a great job of removing sticker residue btw. Just try it in an inconspicuous place first if you're not sure how it will affect the item. But if it's plastic, glass or metal you're probably fine.

In fairness, I do refer to it as Halloween catting when my cats stretch that way or get scared and spring into that classic shape. But that doesn't mean we need it spelled out on the page!

Bahahaha! Dollar Store Halloween merch really cracks me sometimes. I went to this Japanese Dollar Store (lots of cutesy hello kitty type stuff) the other day since they had lots of Halloween merchandise in the windows. They had this small figurine with a turkey that said "Halloween"...maybe it was supposed to be a vulture or something but clearly it was painted like a turkey!

It's gotten to the point where I get excited to see a tombstone that's not engraved with "RIP". I do want one that says "vacancy" I set up an email reminder for one at Party City. I have been wanting to make my own tombstones for years though, I should probably get around to it.

I do the same thing, call it Halloween catting when the cats do the arched back thing.

Here are the ones I got at Target if you're interested...4 of them for $10, and only one says "RIP".
