Going for a scary medieval party. Since the cost of wood is still crazy, does anyone have ideas for medieval props built of alternate materials?

Also any other generali party ideas are welcome.

You could buy drop cloths and paint/draw medieval scenes (like tapestries) on them or even display them so they are the backdrop and painted to look like columns or fancy building walls.

Buy a thrift shop plain desk and try to add or remove details so you aren't starting from scratch and have less wood needs. Or buy something you don't really like but can tear apart for the wood like a table or shelf. You can use pool noodles for arches or curved bits. You can use spray foam to coat some thrifted objects and then carve them into shapes you like. There are lots of tutorials/ideas in this group if you use the search function for stuff like "Great Stuff", "Carving Foam", "Crypt Windows" or "Gothic", etc.

Anything in this image would probably be pretty realistic for your scene - https://www.artstation.com/artwork/w8N0PO

Search for pallets, picnic tables or old wooden swingsets on Craigslist, with the goal of using the wood rather than the item. Might be cheaper and would actually already be aged for some items. Search stores & Craigslist for anything "iron" or "wrought iron" and even if it's a candleholder, think whether you could use it in a different way.

Buy pink insulation foamboard from the hardware store and carve stones into it - tutorials here on that too.

Good luck!
