Need some body-making advice! I'm going with Dave's technique on making budget bodies:

I have 6 pieces already made that are limbs and heads that will be hanging from a meat locker ceiling. The entire haunt will be lit with red lights, so the covering doesn't have to be perfect, but I was wondering how you all would make these things flesh colored and hide any tape, bubble wrap marks, etc. to give them a little more realism. I was thinking rose-colored saran wrap at first, but they seem to have stopped making it. Acrylic paint will flake off the smooth surface of the packing material, so that's out. Does anyone know if paper maiche will take to it? Or something similar? Maybe gesso? Just something to give it a gnarly skin appearance that I can paint with a flesh-toned paint.

I would say the paper mache method would be the best. Lauriebeast has perfected the method to use paper mache (she uses Celluclay) and then overlays it with Paperclay. For what you are describing, the paper mache would probably be enough. I am using her tutorial she made for another creation, "The Bride" and it's turning out great. I have used Lauriebeast's method too, several times,with good results but not over bubble wrap, or packing wrap, My idea for that would be to make the shape you want, then use duct tape over the plastic to seal it, mache will stick and work over duct tape, whether your use paper stips or cellulay, although celluclay would have to be put on thinly ,not to change the shape alot. if you have alot of body parts you might want to, for cost effectiveness, strip mache, or use paper towel for mache, to give a smoother surface, then paint it with acrylics. Am I right in that you have the parts already made with the shipping wrap?

i found this this thread quite interesting since im beginning work on a similar project. since you guys brought up lauriebeast, i did a search to try to find any tutorials that utilize her method and i cant find any does one exist? im really impressed with her vampire. awesome work for just simple paper

wow! awesome. thanks a million terra!

aw i just wish i would've thought to use a wig head as an armature. i went with a plastic grocery bag filled with paper and wrapped in tape. ill switch over and use this tutorial as reference from this step forward.
