Logistical Question for Tempt Your Fate

Hi Everyone,

I need your help!

This year at our party (coming up this Saturday ) we are playing the Murder Winking Game and Tempt Your Fate. I don't think this will be a problem as the Winking Game went off without a hitch last year and throwing Tempt Your Fate into the mix shouldn't disturb much.

My question is.....

I am making (have not yet finished) a "Prize Wheel" similar to a small scale version of the Wheel of Fortune wheel to "Spin Your Fate". Basically, if someone pops a balloon with a punishment, they have to spin the wheel to decide their punishment, (punishments are written on the wheel).

Since I have never played before, will this ruin the surprise of Tempt Your Fate? Isn't the fate supposed to be kind of secret, like only the person who tempts fate really knows and that's why it's funny? I am at a loss and am wondering if I should scrap the Prize Wheel since it's not finished.

From those of you who have played before, what are your thoughts? Much appreciated!!:D

We started doing the "Wheel of Torture" last year for the first time with our Tempt Your Fate game. It was fun and added a little more interest, as everyone could gather round the wheel and wait to see what the fate might be instead of them just popping the balloon and hearing it read off immediately. There are a few different ways people play the game, so there's no hard and fast rules, but typically, the fate isn't secret. Some people use a few "secret" fates thrown in, such as "Do <insert fate> for 10 minutes but don't tell anyone why". Our fates are all on the wheel, including our "Minute To Win It" fates, where the person has an opportunity to reverse their fate by successfully completing the challenge. So, the "surprise" of TYF isn't the fate, per se, it's whether you've gotten a "good" fate (prize) or a "bad fate".

We don't put the whole fate on the wheel. We'll put something like "Ghost Poop!" for the cotton ball Minute-to-Win-it challenge where they smear vaseline on their nose and have to pick up so many cotton balls from one end of the room and transport to a bowl on the other side in 60 seconds. We'll put "Riverdance!" as another example, for people who are required to riverdance as their fate. The short titles, for people who haven't been to the party before, especially, lead to some intrigue and fun. :) Good luck with your party! We're doing our 7th one on the 25th... weather looks to be beautiful, too. :)
