Lighting FX Flicker Unit Makes Halloween Prop Mask Mouth Move for Something Different

1575 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  kimcfadd
This was a happy accident when I was taping one of my Life-size props with a foam pumpkin with sharp teeth mask. It’s cool how the teeth move like he’s talking :D

I show and describe the Lighting FX Unit I got a few years ago. I really like it.

Holy moly... that's a discontinued Lightning FX box with the Halloween exterior. Those things are hard to find now.
(I picked up several about 6 years ago, and they're awesome!)

Nice effect, and I'm going to have to check out the possibilities with the auxiliary jack into the unit. I usually just set up an extension cord with about 20 funkins on it and have them "sing" along with the music...

@ pellollo- Thanx! It was a happy accident with that particular mask. I said I just have to share this. This is too funny. I can't believe this is happening ^v^ I have to put him in the yard to see if works ; I broke my red 100W flood. My Dad got a 90W replacement but it's basically pink like Darth Vader's lightsaber on Return of the Jedi DVD lol In fact I have that costume and lightsaber I video taped but it lost something in the translation. I have to find a red light. Luckily the 'pink' tint works fine on this vid.

@ Frankie's Girl- A collector's item to be sure! Good idea getting 6 of them. That's like 3,000W of floods lol I did hook up 1000W halogens in my video of blasting fog behind a tombstone I believe. So somehow it handled that. I don't think I'd take that chance again.

They're quite a find since they actually work as advertised! 50% off post Halloween. I think it's one of those items people just didn't believe would work. I found that the right music track helps. I used one of those corny cover version Halloween store CD's!

I got that splitter at Radio Shack for something else. But in hindsight I wonder if it even needs a splitter with that single plug to the Right and Left RCA plugs. ('d have to try it. Or maybe it was the size of the plug into the CD player or iPod is why.

I also liked that spot on the sensitivity dial I show. Seems to give me just enough flicker. The lightning bolt on the unit is just too cool! When you first get it you think it might light up lol

fwiw One practical reason I don't show it reacting to an audible thunder track is you can't monetize a youtube video if it has copyrighted audio. I got burned on that in a popular graveyard fog and a grim reaper prop videos that had John Carpenter's Halloween playing waaay in the background. Gotta make pennies on the dollar to pay for props!

Fright Zone,

Did you get the Lightning FX box recently?

Happy Haunting!!
@ kimcfadd- I got it 50% off (I paid $10) 11/3/2005 at Target's let's-get-rid-of-this-stuff-before-Xmas sale :D They work great if you can find one. I really do feel like I have a Yard Haunter's collector's item ^v^ It looks really cool hooked up to a table lamp in the window also which is how they advertise it on the box.
