Hello all just wanted to share with you guys an extremely up and down humbling day we had this past Saturday. Was supposed to be the big Halloween party with all the food catered, props and decorations started months ago as well as costumes for me, my wife and two of my three kids made by us. A total team affair. Now comes the bad news. My 14yr old daughters eye was really bothering her early Saturday morning so we brought her to the ophthamologist and they told us she has a chemical burn with possible permanent damage to her cornea caused by her contacts. Now I'm a very calm person and I never panic because my wife is the one that has trouble handling certain situations but this news just had us all extremely upset. I decided to take her to the hospital in Manhattan, Mt Sinai eye and ear specialists for a second opinion. On the way we decided without hesitation the Halloween party had to be cancelled. No brainer. Extremely busy at the hospital and five hours later finally saw a doctor. ( 5:45 pm) Now comes the good news. Doctor assures us that the original diagnosis was wrong and her eye is not in that bad of shape even though it looks it. Swollen and red. She has a cornea abrasion that should heal with medication in 3-5 days. Wow we all just breathed a lot easier. She was still in some pain and discomfort but she asks us since we just got this great news and she was in high spirits considering the day she had wanted to call her friends and family to try and salvage the Halloween party. I felt a sense of pride in her at that moment, thinking how strong she was and maybe she said that to not disappoint me because she saw how hard I worked on the party. I didn't probe her I just said to her " the party is back on" and she smiled and said thanks. Any other year this party would of been an epic fail. Nothing was set up properly it was a total cluster @&**. But every one that attended this makeship party showed my daughter love and support and as good a time as she could of possibly had. She is getting better day by day and will be trick or treating with us today for a limited time. She will have to wear sunglasses because the light and wind bothers her eye but it does get darker a little earlier here in the northeast. We will watch scaring movies as a family, eat some candy and hug each other a little bit longer this year. Thanks everyone for listening and have a Happy Halloween to you and all your family and friends.
