Has anyone used joint compound over foam spray? Is there a way to keep it from cracking?
I’m making a large hollow pumpkin and the compound is cracking..

It's likely cracking because it shrinks slightly when drying and if you have thick areas, they'll dry at different rates and cause the surface to crack. May need to just let it dry completely and then use thin layers to fill in over the crack if you're wanting perfectly smooth (use some fine sandpaper after completely dry to smooth), or else try using something like paperclay instead.

Or just embrace the cracks as adding character. :)

You may also want to try the fast setting compound you have to mix by hand, its available in different set times from 5 minutes up to 180 minutes. You can get it at your local home improvement store. It is a little better at preventing cracking.

Thank you. I’m going to look into that too!
