I'm in total amazement of your pumpkins Philmo. I just went through the whole thread; love how you get your kids involved. The deck you built is an outstanding display stand for your masterpieces, great job!

I LOVE everything about this... amazing work, the display looks FANTASTIC and I love that you built custom risers to display! :D

Suggestion for other display options: a couple of stand-alone ladders with some boards between them as shelving. Could get some 6-8 foot ladders and have some great height depending on the available areas to display that sort of thing. Would likely need to secure pumpkins to boards, so suggest loose staple where the cords go into the individual pumpkins. Bonus would be having a few skeletons or scarecrows climbing the ladders or "arranging" the pumpkins if you felt like adding some whimsy to the display (not that it needs more since it is wonderful - just throwing out an idea).

So jealous! We saw "The House with a Clock in its Walls" this weekend and ever since I've been wracking my brain to find ways to get as many pumpkins as I can. The ones in the movie were so awesome!

... How & where do you store yours?

We have a "corral" that my husband made & of course it's now overflowing on to the floor & into other containers in the basement!!:D I do something similar & I'm always curious to see how other folks store their stuff like this.
While I’m in my downtime, I remembered this question. I decided that since the pumpkins don’t need temp control like latex does, I am moving them to the garage. I decided to make my containers from store bought boxes since the cases they come in are really too small, they press against each other and over time dent in the sides. Since a lot of these have fragile carvings I am building compartments in the boxes. I bought 24”x24”x18” boxes from Menards last night. For every 3 boxes I bought, it will make 2 pumpkin boxes as one is a donor to make the compartments. See pics. This will give me uniform stacking and protection from crushing.

Cut one box into its 4 sides.
Cut one flap off each piece and cut two like below, then fold at the flap

Cut another 2 side like below, then fold at the flap

Slid the 2 sides that you cut together like shown here

Slide it into the box and you cave a compartmentalized box. It’s important to keep one of the flaps because it will keep the compartments square.

This is what happens when they are barely pressing against each other. It caves in the face. I’ll inflate a balloon inside it to push that out.

I ordered 18 pumpkins from Michael’s, that’s 3 cases. I received 2 cancellation notices for 4 each. That’s 8 total that were canceled due to availability. Seriously, 30 days until Halloween and I bought them out of pumpkins? Apparently 10 have shipped. That doesn’t make me confident that I’m not getting the scratch and dent stock no one else wanted since they come new in cases of 6. Now I have to make a 120 mile round trip to buy more to finish this last batch of carvings. Boys and I had planned on a themed “finale” of sorts to end the pumpkin carving. It’s going to require 15 pumpkins, this shipment gives me 12 since I still have 2 on hand. Going to have to wait until Wednesday night to make the trip in case I have to return merchandise.
