so I finalized our invitations today.... took the printout down to kinko's to get a price for the printing of them...and BAM Denied by Kinko's.
The lady working there refused to even give me a price. She said my invitations "Could possibly be infringing on some copyrighted work somewhere" and because of that she completely refused to help me. She even told me I couldn't use their self-services and print them myself. Basically I was told to leave their store.
I wasn't even rude or anything. I just walked up and said "hello, I need a price on getting aprox. 100 and 150 of these printed." and I showed her the home-printed version of our invite. She totally became rude and in a condescending tone said "do you own these images?" and I said "well I created this invitation on my computer at home, and it has all my information on it." and she said "this looks too professional, and must be a copyrighted work". I tried to assure her that one, it was an invitation for a party, and two it wasn't copyrighted, but she absolutely refused to help me and shoved my homemade insert back across the counter to me.
I then wished her a good afternoon and said thank you and turned and left.
Has anyone else ever had problems like this? I think I just got a person who's had some sort of negative bad day. I have had quotes from online companies who have seen my invite artwork, and none of them have said they couldn't print my invites.
I wouldn't even know where to begin to apply for a license to use Jack Skellington-like images in my invitations... It's not like I'm selling these things, or even have a large budget to play with... As is, it looks like it's gonna cost about $120 for these complete invites for up to 150 of them.
On another note, I created this REALLY awesome wallpaper (I actually hand drew it from 3 different versions of the wallpaper that I had seen) that I was going to have printed at Kinko's too... It's very similar to the one found in the hallway of Doors at the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland... Should I even bother trying to get this printed? It was going to be taped onto the patio walls at our house for the party.
