My el-cheap one-way mirror is plexiglas or real glass from one of the big box stores and the mirrored window film. I bought the most reflective one online. The real mirrors use a sputtering process which is very expensive.

The front is a half mirror with the mirrored side facing in away from the viewer. The back wall is a full mirror (or another half mirror with black behind it)Here is the video I was talking about. And the alien may be a half an alien. It is hard to see from the low quality video, but half an alien with the cut off side would be flush against the back mirror. I will do a quick test with my mirrors. I have a haunted mine shaft.
