Lately I've been noticing a lot of Gemmy products looking like PMG products, but today I found out

First, Gemmy has been re releasing a lot of PMG masks over the years, this includes Cackle, Vile, and Hexy.

Look at the similarity between my Gemmy 2013 hanger and the early 2000's PMG "Blue Ghost"

And I knew something was up when I saw that PMG originally made the "Blood Line" fake blood (I got the Gemmy version, but had to return is since the package was damaged, and as a collector I couldn't have that.) http://www.amazon.com/Gemmy-Blood-Line-Fake/dp/B00GJD313U

I just found this interesting and thought I should share :)

This was a big deal in 2012 when Gemmy shut down legendary mask maker Don Post Studios. Lot's of people were not very happy about it. What I didn't and still don't understand, is why they would buy PMG and just shut them down without using the product line or new development? Bottom line business decisions I suppose.

Fortunately, Trick or Treat Studios has stepped up to fill that void.

I figure they either wanted to eliminate a competitor or wanted to expand their line. The economy has gone through a lot of up and down since then so maybe expansion plans (and cost of financing inventory and employees) got reworked after the purchase. It is nice to see Gemmy bringing back some of the PMG masks I've liked over the years. I started noticing their name on some of the "PMG" masks I would see at places like RiteAid, CVS in the past few years.

This is very old news. Not sure if you noticed the year of that article.

Here's a HF thread from 2012 where there was some discussion on what Gemmy was buying up. When I saw your thread I remembered participating in an old thread and took a bit to relocate the old thread but here it is: http://www.halloweenforum.com/general-halloween/119338-attention-don-post-studios-closed-down-bought-gemmy-industries.html Might give you some additional background.
Thanks, I had no idea Gemmy shut down Don Post. I also didn't know that Don Post was a branch of PMG.
Here's some old masks they planned on bringing back and some new masks utilizing the Don Post style
