So I got assigned to be a zombie in a big graveyard during the hay ride, and I have no idea what I'm really doing. I feel like zombies aren't that scary. It's really hard for all of us due to the nature of the hay ride. We felt like it would have been easier to be zombies on one of the walking trails, because we could chase people. Almost no one was scared of us, and we get really bummed out when they hit the next part and everyone screams for the chainsaws.

We're working in a traditional graveyard setting, and I guess we're supposed to be more the old school zombies. We aren't allowed to touch anyone, but we can climb on the trailer if we feel comfortable doing it (the tractor slows down enough in our section that it's not that dangerous). I just feel like zombies aren't smart or coordinated enough to actually climb on it. Zombies don't talk so we can't say anything threatening. There's no open graves or a dead body for us to huddle around eating to kind of set the stage so to speak. Mostly, we just stumble around the graveyard until they roll through.
Another problem is working around all the electrical wires running through our scene. Between that and the tall grass, it's a bit dangerous for us to try running. We usually stumble through the graveyard until we hit the "road" that runs through, and then we try run to "attack" the trailer. We moan and growl and "reach" for people, but that's about it. I'm the one that usually chases the trailer for a bit until they "outrun" me. The people on the ride just tend to make fun of us (granted, it's usually teens that are doing that), or just sit there, not being bothered by us.

Any ideas?

I think makeup and prosthetics are your best friend here.

If you can't be a chasing zombie, be a jawless zombie or a eyeball popped out zombie. Be something that will be the vision of nightmares and make sure you make dead eye contact with people, especially the people who already appear frightened.

Unfortunately I don't do my own makeup. The farm I work for has people to do it, and they really don't want us coming in makeup because the farm is still open for child friendly activities when we come in. Admittedly, last night was our first night and we ran out of time before opening that we all went through a rush job for makeup. I'm hoping that tonight will be better. I'm already planning out what to wear under my "costume." We don't really get costumes as zombies, just a big ripped up shirt to wear over our street clothes. I doubt my fellow "actors" are as committed as I am, which doesn't help things...
