Any suggestions on how to make lengths of soft cotton clothes line look more like a stiff, plastic coated electrical cord? I've tried soaking it in super salted salt water and drying it, but it needs to be stiffer and less messy.

Thanks.

May be possible to use wire coathangers - shape/straighten and run it through the clothsline? I'd likely give that a try and see if it works as wire coathangers are pretty cheap/free and the attempt would just cost you a bit of time and effort.

TY. That's the right line of thinking I'm hoping for. The "cord in the center" was tried already, but abandoned. We're wondering about some other "Aha!" idea that's right under our noses.

I wonder what would happen if you soaked it in wood glue, paint, or varnish, and then squeezed out all the excess. Although you may end up a cotton tent pole instead of cotton electrical cord. Maybe slightly watered down glue, paint or varnish?
