How have you grown over the years?

I'm only going to pick one small part of my yard to show, but this has basically been my progression. I'd either love to see people's pictorial or hear their verbal progression, what ever they want to show. How they've grown in their Halloween decorating over the time they've put in.

For me to start off with, when my kids were small, even though Halloween has always been a big holiday in our house, I lovingly hand made any costume to their hearts desire .. I however kept things more fall oriented and little kid happy. Stuff that could bring me right through the fall season. I was a busy mom to three little girls close in age.

This is Bobblehead bill so named by my kids, a friendly, happy, gentleman farmer type of scarecrow. He stuck around a few falls, always with a new set of thrift store duds for the season.

As the girls got older and their love of a more spooky halloween set in, they went from being pretty fairies, to ghouls. I adapted, but still couldn't let go of my pretty flowers that could be unwrapped from webbing and live on for the rest of the season. Wait .. I did add in spiders and pumpkins after all. ;)

Then as they got to old to Tot anymore, we took the big jump, shall we say. :) Same area different view. I even ditched the flowers!

Now this year inspired by all of the wonderful sentinels I've seen, you all have coaxed me to the next level. We are coming full circle with a scarecrow in that area again. This one a bit more wicked and scary than Bill. He's yet to be constructed, his head is on the way. But with a nod to these guys and all the wonderful pumpkin sentinels I've seen. The girls are super excited to help bring this new brute to life. :)

UnOrthodOx, wow .. What an amazing difference!!! :) Something that really stands out to me is your use of lighting, I really need to learn how to light my stuff better this year. It really makes a world of difference.
Fair disclosure, we moved into the place right before Halloween 2004.

Yes, lighting is your #1 priority, it's what I say every time a tips thread comes up. Get your lighting first, then worry about the other stuff. Ironically, 2013 was lit entirely by flames, aside from the 2 Chimera. You can read more on my lighting philosophy behind them here: http://www.halloweenforum.com/tutor...-unorthodox-chimera-tutorial.html#post1409706

Thanks so much for the link! I'm headed off to read it. I've been trying to read everything I can get a hold of on lighting. We failed at this pretty bad last year, I'm determined to get a handle on it this halloween!
Beautiful pictures Unorthodox! 2013 looks like an oil painting
Well, my waist spilled out from 34 inches to 48 inches, but after rededicating myself, I've got it back down to 38 inches. So nice to not have to buy my pants in the big men's section anymore!

Yes, folks, it's true! I've lost more than 170 pounds on a Halloween Prep Exercise Regimen! I'm probably up to 200 lbs lost, but I've been too lazy to check. Far as I know, I am the only person in the world who can say he lost a whole person on Halloween!

This is a fun thread. Here is our display in 2008. I was so proud of my two 4-ft. skeletons from Oriental Trading Co.

This is the same area, decorated as the Midnight Carnival for 2013

Kymm, I love the additions! Especially the boarded windows... Most spooky!
Love the carnival scene Paint it black!
Thank you Snickers! We had new neighbors last year and since the boards on the windows are the first thing we put up, they asked if something happened that we had to put boards up... They thought someone was vandalizing our house! I think that they thought it was even odder that we simply put them up because Halloween was three and half weeks away!

I started with a decorated fireplace mantel, the next year there were 3 witches in the yard and then followed the next year with a plastic witch (gift) on my deck and then a small shelf or potions. The witch is plastic and was originally kneeling in front of a plastic cauldron over a firepit but I decided to sit her in a chair on the deck. Don't ask why...*shrugs*. I don't remember what years they were taken.
