Hi There,

Looking for some ideas!

I would like to move a light foam prop 4 to 6 feet horizontally.

I have seen this done with a garage door opener setup but I was hoping to scale this down a bit.

I would like to use a motor and not pneumatics if possible.

In a perfect world the prop would start at one end and move to the other, and once it reaches the other, it flips down like a shooting range target and returns to where it started.

Does anyone have any ideas or know of anything on the web similar to this?

Thanks!

I would suggest something like a conveyor belt. I am not sure how dramatic the "fall" would be but the smaller the wheel at the top the sharper the drop.

Take a look at some of the props member CreepyCreations has made with wiper motors. I think there might be one in there that would work for you, and he has posted tutorials for many of them on here.

Scissor prop and a wiper motor can get you the horizontal distance. As for the prop flipping down would take a bit of thought. Maybe on a spring loaded hinge and at the back end, have a wiper motor loop with a cam to push it back up right and lock the hinge in place.
