Hi and Good day to everyone, I have a Hollywood theme event coming up and looking for suggestions and ideas how to create a Life Size Oscar x2. I have no knowledge in sculpting however I'm a quick learner. I have been going through threads on the forums and I'm very much impress with the awesome designs i'm seeing. I really need to get this done and rely on your expertise.. Thanks in advance..

Hey MikeyMIke!

Depending on how durable you want them, you could carve them out of styrofoam sheet insulation (you can glue panels together with something like gorilla glue)...but that could get expensive. Here's a tutorial from Terra where she builds a horse out of foam. May have some useful info there.

It's a simple enough form that you could probably get away with some kind of wood or wire armature and then a cardboard shape covered with paper-mache, but that could be time consuming. Much cheaper in the long run. His stuff is really different but you might want to check out Stolloween.com - here's a link to a specific paper mache project. He tends to mock up the bulk of the shape with taped together recyclables, which I'm guessing would keep the weight down and provide some strength.

If you don't get any more responses here, you may want to post in the prop section. I don't think this area gets as much traffic.
