TLC’s Sunday airing of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo: A Very Boo Halloween attracted the show’s biggest audience to date.

More than 3.1 million people tuned into the “holladay” special — besting all season one episodes of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. The special also ranked No. 2 among all ad-supported cable in its Sunday at 9 pm. slot. In the episode, Honey Boo Boo’s mom June faced her phobia of mayonnaise, she dyed her hair blonde and dressed as Marilyn Monroe. The family also tried on costumes in a costume shop and went in a corn maze — where June decided to pee.

In November, TLC announced there would be four “holladay” specials featuring Honey Boo Boo’s clan. The next one involves Thanksgiving and will air on Jan. 13

I will admit to watching it! :D

I made it through 6 minutes. Not even the sight of Halloween blow molds could prevent the grey matter from leaking out my nose and ears at that point. I'm the least maternal person I know, but my overriding impulse was to kidnap the infant (for whom there might be hope) and spirit her away from those people to be raised by a civilized family, like a wolf pack or meerkat gang.

tlc has gone down the drains. american television is just getting dumber and dumber as the years progress. dont know whats so "learning" about honey boo boo and her white trash family. bluefrog and osenator have got more time than me on that show... i think i watched about 10 seconds of it before my iq dropped so low i almost forgot how to use the remote, i caught it just in time to get the channel changed.

I have watched Honey Boo Boo clips on the net. I have to say that she and her sisters are happy, healthy (sort of), and loved.

The older I get, the more I appreciate the love a family- regardless of circumstance-has for each other.

I am from NY, and the man I have been married to for 20 plus years is from the South. I do understand now the differences in regional culture and believe Honey and her family seem to be extroverted, crass, and a bit ill-mannered at times...but not terrible people.

I don't ever think I would want to display my family on reality TV. We live on a Military post, and our Commanding General's daughter will be on the upcoming tv series "The Bachelor." (I have never watched that show, but understand the concept.) Our oldest daughter is her age, and I wondered how I'd feel about my kid being on a reality romance show. This young lady has a college degree and a family of means, but has chosen to go on a reality show and compete with other women for a man.

I think alot of reality TV exploits everyone involved. We watch the king crab fishing show, and Mike Rowe, and usually the auditions of American Idol.

That being said, Honey and her family are probably banking quite a bit and just being themselves. My family does like her "You'd better Red-neckadnize" saying, tho.

PS my husband is horrified, just horrified at this show. He feels like it makes Southerners look trashy/low-class/ignorant. SO there you go!

glad they're a loving family and all but these people totally dont deserve their own show. tlc used to be educational, and now its just bogus crap like honey boo boo. and the fact that people actually watch this crap... its just idocracy in the making. who knew that movie was prophetic

I watched 4 minutes of it, and I was about to shoot myself in the head somehow. I can't understand how that is this entertainment...
Bravo. You summed up my sentiments regarding (non)reality TV perfectly, osenator:D

I fully agree. What passes for 'entertainment' is incredibly frightening, and it is even more disturbing that so many adore this mind-numbing rubbish. I was stuck watching some celebrity therapy show on VH1 the other month when I was by my friend's house, since his wife wanted to watch it, and all I could think of was hitting someone upside the head as hard as possible (or that it would be done to me)

Was the name really that simple? Shoot... Shows what I know of those dumb things:rolleyes: I miss the days when VH1 and MTV actually aired music (foreign concept nowadays?).

'Jersey Shore' is definitely one of them, isn't it?:p;) That show makes me ashamed to have some Italian blood...:D

It's not television that's getting dumber, it's the audience. You have to remember, they only put stuff on TV that they feel there's an audience for. Why people would waste what precious time they have on earth watching this crap is beyond comprehension.

Now I feel like an idiot for commenting on this thread, because that will bump it back to the top (where can I find that "banging your head against the wall" emoticon)

Ah crap, now that stupid, I just wasted a couple minuted of my life commenting on how we shouldn't be wasting our time on that crap and I just did that......

An obnoxious woman with a voice like nails on a chalkboard and "huh huh, huh huh" just scream 'quality' to me...;)

I want to see real reality shows. Here are a few suggestions:

"Pwned Stars"

"So You Think You Can Crochet"

"Extreme Napping: Office Edition"

"Hell's Bathroom"

"Undercover Panhandler"

"The Real Municipal Waste Workers Of Grant County"

"Vaccuuming With The Stars"

Or bring back some previous shows with a modern spin:

"When 'Toddlers & Tiaras' attack"

"Vice Presidents Say The Darndest Things"

and also, you must have missed the sarcasm in my post... beavis and butthead as quality tv? come on now. lol

and unfortunately scatter, you're right. but tv is dumbing itself down for the audience....

The only shows I watch on TV are usually supernatural, historical, or science/speculative based. Yes, it's TV and we don't know really what is staged, but I have no interest in watching other people live there trainwreck lives for television drama. Watch what you want; it's your time and money, and I have no problem with that. It's entertainment in the end...good or bad. But to me, reality TV goes a long way in describing American pop culture and exactly how far we've come (and fallen) in the past decade. Ones I watch:

Ghost Adventures
River Monsters
Destination Truth
Monsterquest
The Universe
Ancient Aliens

Most of the others are documentary types: Haunted History, Weird Travels, UFO, etc.

OMG- to pull this off-topic thread a but further down the railroad of TV hell: my neighbor lives and dies by a reality show called "Dance Moms," or something like that.

I watched part of an episode at her home: it is the worst.

I watch Buffy, Supernatural, and cartoons with my kids. We watch Cash Cab and wish he'd pick us up if we ever went to NYC. And we do watch football.

Most days we don't watch tv, except for the weather channel.

LOL!

hahaha! Let's not forget the original horror series, "My taxes paid for THAT?" Remember, they had to take it off of basic cable because it was too 'adult' for children and people who still have a soul? :)
