HELP ! Dogs destroy outside decorations

2025 Views 15 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Blarghity
Last year I didn't decorate at all due to the fact that we live where there are from 5 to 10 dogs that tear everything up.All year I have junk in my yard from them tearing up other neighbors yards. What I would like to know is if anyone has ideas for props that the dogs can not get to or are unable to tear them up.
I have 3 inside dogs and 2 outside dogs and they were taught not to tear things up .I can leave them alone and come home to the house just as I left it .Same if I leave them outside.I love Halloween and really hate it when I cant decorate outside
any Ideas ?

There is an old saying with regards to this and a lot of other problems we haunters suffer from.

"Fences make good neighbors."

It will inhibit theft and vandalism, stop most animal issues (in my neighborhood, the worry isn't props torn up by dogs, but rather them getting pissed on by dogs), and keeps kids from entering the parts you don't want them in on Halloween night.

One of these days, I'll get around to taking my own advice. :D
It always makes me sad that there are dogs out that are so misbehaved, it means their owners don't care about them enough to train them or keep them safe or they are wild.

That said no one should have to deal with a misbehaved dog. Since you can't call animal control (did you try contacting the state police to see if they are aware of a statewide group that could help you?) I would go with the same suggestion above fencing.

I hope you get this under control so you can enjoy your yard, no one should have to deal with that. Good luck!
Some dog breeds just have personality traits you just can't train out of them. My boxers have always been very well trained, to the point that I tell them to take a leak and they do so on command, but when they see someone new they realize they can get to, it's all bets off. They go racing along with the thought of "hold on, hold on, let me go slobber this stranger hello and THEN I'll listen to what you have to say!" and bounce around the stranger doing their best Tigger impersonation.
