I've been looking forward to Secret Reaper since I joined. Everyone seems to have so much fun! Some people last year, however, sent out a gift but never received one. Does this happen often? Mainly, I can't wait to put together a diabolical package, but also getting something fun would be nice :D

I'm really looking forward to the secret reaper.

I read your latest reply and just wanted to express my opinion. As far as matching people together with like individuals I'm not sure that this is the best way to go. I do agree that we should clarify our likes and dislikes, but I'm not sure that gore people should be matched with gore people etc. I think it could be more interesting for the giver and the recipiant to be of differant style. I know just because I may not have a gore theme haunt that I could still take interest in purchasing this type of item. Not only could I take interest, but also may be able to shed a differant light on the recipient not to mention I myself may gain a new appreciation for something differant. As far as matching people from the same country this seems to loose some appeal, I know for myself being from Canada I would appreciate the perspective of a fellow haunter from another country, not to mention possibly the diiferant pieces that may be availabe to them. My take on what I'm hearing from members from places in Europe are that props and decorations are limited, which leads me to think that these members would probably really appreciate recieving something from a country that has an abundance of decorations. Members from Europe may be inclined to make something themselves, or purchase online from a retailer for example in the States for someone in the States, which could be shipped directly from the supplier to the recipiant and save on shipping cost.

Just out of curiosity what is usually the budget?
I agree with you 100%

the gifts are 20 dollars, a buck one way or the other is ok, but basically 20 dollars.
I guess I didn't explain well, which is a bad habit of my, (drives hubby crazy), I am not matching gore with gore, etc, , but I do want every ones likes and dislikes, to help out with ideas of what to get your "victim". The europe/canada thing is only because I have been asked about it by other members, if every one is willing to send the gifts any where, it is fine with me, it is just the cost is so high. So if no one minds the cost, it is fine with me. Let me know what you all think!
The way it worked in the past was that everyone participating posted their likes and dislikes in a seperate thread and also stated if they were willing or unwilling to ship to europe or canada. Then the person organizing matched up people.
And yes, last year several people didn't receive gifts so I think you need a way to improve on that. Perhaps a dollar donation from everyone participating to cover a gift for anyone who doesnt get one and also it also helps weed out any people not serious about the exchange.

We had a special situation last year, in that the person running it, unfortunately, passed away. That's a main reason for the disconnect with getting people gifts on time/at all.

As with last year, while I'm not interested in participating outright (we prefer to craft all our own stuff, nothing against anyone), I will create 3 packages of our home-made goodies to offer up to the "in case someone don't get a gift" emergency fund. If the need arises, just PM me the info, and I'll swift one away.

That is seriously awesome, UnOrthodOx.

I've never participated because I've been burned too often in the past with gift exchanges.

I'm leaning towards doing the Secret Reaper this year, just because I love this forum and I'd be willing to ship internationally too - I hate that Canada/UK members are so bereft of Halloween goodies we tend to take for granted... :)

I think that someone who signes up for the Secret Reaper and recieves but doesnt give is dispicable. An easy solution to pretty much assure gift exchange would be to list on the forum unruley Reapers. This would out them for all to see and allow them to be treated accordingly.

I'm definitely tempted but will have to see how my cash-flow pans out before i opt in!
could be a lot of fun!!! :D

can the gift be anything or does it have to be something in particular?

also how do you deem what is worth "$20" if it's home made?
are there any no-no's in terms of whats sendable? - im not talking anything graphic,
also is there a theme for said gifts?

it is nice that there will be a post of likes and dislikes. likes gore, doesn't like gore. likes cutsey, doesn't like cutsey etc. that is how it was done last year as well. two years ago there was only one that received and didn't send. he was made public and shame on him. i never heard before there were some last year who didn't send. i think we would like to know who was left out and who was a sham. but i heard several offered to send to those if they didn't receive. so did this happen? unorth, that is a very nice offer. this was real fun last year for what i received. just as a thought, everyone likes to feel what they send is liked, so please give likes and dislikes. also, it is fun to see what everyone gets, a post of what you get is nice as well.

When would the exchange take place?
I would base my decision as to whether or not to join in based on this.

However..I am more than happy to do as Unorthodox has offered to do, and act as a "just in case" reaper for anybody that doesn't recieve in the UK or Europe.
This would save Unorthodox's shipping costs if there were any problems this side of the pond.

Please let me know if you would like a "standby reaper" on this side of the Atlantic.

ok, I will try to answer questions, first, I want to say what great guys you are, Unorthodox and Baron to offer to send if someone doesn't receive. I am going to put in the rules that if you receive and for what ever reason can't send one, you have to send your gift on to the person you have for a victim, if you do not, you could be banned from the forum, per Larry's discression, . I do believe it did happen last year, I remeber some one on Larry's christmas forum commenting on it, when wwe did a card exchange
I then will ask , when the sign up is, whether one is oopen to sending to Canada and Europe, I do know some one from the UK was concerned with the costs of shipping to the US, and wanted someone closer, so I am trying to accomidate every one.
As far as the cost of home made item, you count the things you bought to make it as part of the price, or just estimate it a close as possible!
WELL, every one, am off for my camping trip, will answer any questions, and have the final rules and sign up then!

Thank you Bethene for doing this. Hope you had a good camping trip. I found the forum too late last year to participate & was bummed. Looked like a blast & I am definitely in this year. I planned ahead and bought items on clearance last year and have made some small things. Hopefully I get someone who'll enjoy it. If not, get to go shopping =)
