Thread is running on what....4 years??? Shows what a great build it was/is!! I was curious as to what anyone has done on the inside so that viewers don't see the wood frame? Maybe just paint it black?

Curious because I was thinking of trying my hand at making one and putting an animated prop just inside of it.

Great work TK and thank you for sharing. Glad this thread is still alive too!!!

Maybe you could put a thin foam board on the inside and make it close to the same detail as out? This would be too big to store whole so I would have all sides be detachable by screws so to make that work I wouldn't make the board on this inside be stuck in permanent place. I've never made one but I do want to try too and that's what I was going to try.

TK - I noticed you bought 1x4s and cut them into 1x1s. I don't have any way to rip them myself, so wondered if I could just use 1x2s or 1x3s? Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance :) Looks like, if I counted right, that you used approximately 33 strips total for the frame - 11 1x4s ripped into 33 1x1s?

Yes, you can use 1x2 or even 1x3 if you want. I went with a 1x4 and ripped them down simply because I wanted it to be light, and that was the least expensive option.

Thanks for the response TK. I decided to go with a frame made from 1" PVC frame. Only bad thing is, is that our Lowes and HD don't carry all the nice Tees I need to make the frame. Some 4 ways and 3 way elbows. Had to order those from formufit.com Found the frame plans here - Their plan is only 40" tall; so I'll adapt it to make it a little bigger. Original thought is to go with 48" just to make it so that a 4x8 foam sheet fits without a lot of cutting/fitting.

Thanks again for sharing your project. I just hope mine turns out half as nice!
