Hi everyone,
here's what I have in mind. My garage is too small for a "garage haunt", and besides, it also serves as my workshop (never parked a car in there ever since we moved into the place). I do have a huge driveway, though (over 5 meter wide, 20 meter long), big enough for an 8x4 meter party tent and have a lot of extra space for outdoor stuff. Has anyone done something like that, make an indoor haunt in an 8x4 meter space? Would love to hear your experiences and tips.

We have everything from 8X8 shade canopies to the portable carport type tarp buildings from Harbor Freight.

We have done dot and black/white strobe rooms with the smaller canopies.

Did a funeral parlor scene one year using 2 canopies side by side. Some photos in our albums here https://www.halloweenforum.com/members/stinkerbell-n-frog-prince-albums-geo-boo-caching-event-2010-a.html Cheap black plastic sheeting can be hung on the bars using office binder clips to make sides. For the dot room I would watch for large sections of black fabric or King sized Black flat bed sheets at thrift stores. Then using florescent paint spray the wanted shapes on the fabric. We did skulls for a few years and Alien heads just last year. For the Black and White room used the black and white scene setter wall decor... the stuff was pretty flimsy so ended up using spray adhesive and gluing it to lengths of weed block. Last year one of the canopies became space chamber for our aliens by switching out the black and white with cheap silvery space blankets.

The big carport building we do a dark foggy jungle room. I would get those elastic cargo nets using coupons from harbor freight. String them along the roof line and then using fishing line hang pool noodles - I cut some noodles to act line branches, wind fuzzy yarn around others for texture. Make garbage bag human "pelts" hung them. Made rope and great stuff foam vines hung them.

Added someone in a gorilla suit for the scare.

Stinkerbell those are awesome ideas. what do you attach the sides to? I would love to do something like this but don't have poles or anything to attach sides to. I just looked at your link and saw the canopies put together. Duh, I never thought of that either! Smacks my head.


We have had so much rain the past few years, I really wish I could use my large screened porch in the back yard, but hubby is adamant about not having them in the back. He is afraid of lawsuits and I keep telling we could have someone fall in the front, too.

For sides at first I use rolls of black plastic purchased from the hardware department. It can be clipped using office clips/ binder clips to the bars/poles at the top. just fold over an edge and clip it to the bar. If you look close at the skull dot photo you can see the office clips at the top holding sheets to the bars.

We get lots of rain with just enough wind to be a problem here in the PNW so in the end for the big carport tarp buildings we get from harbor freight to make the sides we hang more stable in the wind we spray glued scene setters scenes to weed block we then added harbor freight grommets to it and used Harbor Freight ball bungees to attache it to the poles. Using truck cargo nets along the roof allows us to hang just about anything along the whole building . Again looking at the photos closely in the black and white room you can see the grommets and ball bungees holding the sides to the poles and in the "jungle" room the cargo nets along the roof holding all my hanging stuff. The best part of all this is it can be folded up and fit into a a couple of big Fake Christmas Tree bag for storing.

They aren't very sturdy but we don't get any rain and usually not much wind. Rather than bother storing them, I always put them on Facebook Marketplace the day after and always end up selling them for about $70.

I used the Harbor Freight portable garage as a Freak Show one year. This year we plan on just covering the frame in tons of beef netting to make a giant spiderweb cave people walk through to get to the house.

I'm considering a similar set-up with my car port. Thinking of hanging black sheeting down both sides to create a tunnel effect. There's a window at the end of the driveway that will have a pair of giant eyeballs looking down the "tunnel". My big worry is how bloody hot it already is in October down here. I won't want my tunnel up for more than a couple of days at most, lest the car melt.

I made up 4 tent anchor buckets this weekend to try out....I'm going to start putting a 10 X 10 tent up on the weekends so I have shade to work on stuff outside this summer and want something I can leave up all weekend, even when a thunderstorm passes through.....We've been getting some pretty nasty storms over the last few years so I decided to go a little over board and pour a 60 pound bag of cement in each 5 gallon bucket and insert a 5 inch bolt 4 inches down in the wet cement so only about an inch of the threads stick out....I'll give it all week to cure before trying it out so it doesn't crack the cement.....I can put the tent leg down over the bolt through the stake hole and use a washer and nut to secure in place.....

I'll still have to grind the washer down some so it will fit around the leg side....If it loosens the nut too fast over the weekend, I'll add a second nut to lock it in place....Lock washers are only good for 1 time use so I'll use 2 nuts instead.....ZR
