I am jumping on the bandwagon to give out small toys with the full size bars this year. I have already collected mini Play-Doh cans, mini stencils & erasers (will get pencils to go with them) and some Hot Wheels. I wanted to put them into little paper treat sacks - the flat "vintage style" (not plastic).

I was looking online and I was kind of shocked that they would basically cost the same as the candy that goes inside!

Where is the best place to get them? Does Dollar Tree or 99¢ Store carry that paper kind close to the season? Starting to get excited about putting all of this together. Thanks, in advance, for your advice.

Those stores don't carry those kind of treat bags, that I know of. Have you looked on Amazon? Or maybe the Beistle website?

Otherwise, maybe you could buy white cello bags in bulk, relatively cheap, and add a Halloween sticker or stamp on them.

I remember Dollar Tree having paper sacks before. You can also buy plain brown paper lunch sacks and tie them with orange and black curling ribbon. I like to attach plastic vampire teeth or a spider ring to the ribbon, Sometimes I will place a King Size candy bar in a few of the bags.

Thanks RCIAG and boo who? I am kind of re-thinking my strategy. I may bag the toys into clear treat sacks w/Halloween ribbon and then leave the full-size bars in the bowl so they can see and pick the candy and the toys separately. We only get 40-50 kids so it's easy to have the two separate bowls out to choose from.

Closer to Halloween you might find seasonal Ziploc type bags too. Clear on one side, Halloween stuff on the other but clear.

OT will also have sales all year & closer to the big day they will have more to choose from. I generally get all my bags from them, from larger ones to 3" paper sacks with googly eyes.

Separating toy treat bags from full size candy bars is exactly what I do! I offer a basket of full size candy bars which is usually the preference of older TOT's. I also offer the treat bags with small toys and smaller candies like Skittles, gummies, and lollipops. I will get a few small plush for babies and toddlers. Aldi had mini-plush after Easter for 44 cents each.

Throughout the year, I will also gather some nicer toys (Lego sets, Play-doh sets, Slime) which I will gift wrap and set aside for kids with food allergies or simply "just because." Then I sometimes add a few King Size bars in bags that are not see-through. I usually end up giving the better toys to solo TOTs since it wouldn't be fair to hand out one bigger item it a group of TOTs.

I usually get around 70-90 TOTs and put out roughly 50 full sized candy bars in addition to goodie bags and toys..

Dollar General has them at Halloween.. I stock up after Halloween when they are at 90% off.. I usually have around 400 trick or treaters so this helps a lot.. (I also stock up on the 90% off toys from there and Walmart.) The money saved allows me to buy full size candy bars from Sams club in bulk..

After I read your post I checked out Halloween treat bags on Ebay. They have some great designs at amazing prices.

we give out treat sacks with just candy and then we put stuff like that (Play Dooh, Tattoos, Pads & pencils Ect) in bowls off the side and have the kids pick what they want. that way you have more room in the bags for candy

Last year I found some cute small Ziploc-type bags at Michaels and used a coupon to get a couple of packs. I went a little overboard filling them last year. I plan to get them again this year but am going a bit simpler with what I want to put in: notepad, chocolate item, fruity candy item. That way everyone can have at least one thing from the bag and I don't put anything with nuts in them. It's also easy to just slip into their bags or buckets instead of waiting for them to pick.

I love this idea. Last Halloween my child was super stoked to be offered a bowl of little PlayDoh jars to pick from. She exclaimed that it was the best Halloween treat yet. That made the woman handing them out very happy.

That's EXACTLY why I want to do that. I remember how exciting it was to get something different/special on Halloween!

We usually buy our bags at Dollar Tree, and maybe I just didn't look at all of the options too closely, but last year every bag we saw was plastic. There were some cardboard box types available, but the expense was a bit high; four bags as opposed to a dozen per dollar. We wound up with some bags that looked like cartoon ghosts and monster faces. But as mentioned, they were plastic and totally not what you're looking for.

The reason I'm writing is to say, if I were you and wanted what you want, I would commit to finding them out there online rather than waiting and hoping that the Dollar Tree stocks what you want this year. If they show up on in the Halloween aisle, then snap them up for next year, but don't wait to find out they aren't carrying what you dream of handing out.
