We've been doing the Halloween trains for years and have gone through multiple versions and train sizes.

I decided this year to make it a little larger but also have room for some of our Halloween light up houses and to make more room for some of the larger train cars like the Ecto 1 last year.

So I made this one out of 3 4x8 1/2 plywood reinforced with 4x1x10 on the back. The goal was to make it sturdy and as light as I could make it. So its sturdy....the light part not so much

The nice thing however is that I could fit 3 different O gauge tracks with plenty of room between them. I also made a smaller HO guage track I can add later if I want to.


Final dimensions for the O guage is 80in by 110in

Wow that's impressive! What are the plans for the center of the track area? How do you run power to the upper level? BTW one of my uncles back in the 50s-60s would every year set up his train set for under their xmas tree. As kids we loved visiting to watch them and sometimes he would let us handle the power/speed switches. Remember some black box with a big red and big black circular switch of some kind. Fun to blow the whistle and see smoke coming out of the train's engine stack. Wonder what cousin got his set. Sure it would be collectors dream. So do you have a theme for yours this year? I could picture the town of Whoville below and the Grinch's trash mountain rising up in the center but that would be the wrong holiday. Maybe something from The Nightmare Before Christmas with Jack and Sally on a cemetary hill top watching the trains below?

In the middle we will be running some light up Halloween Houses. I also ran an electrical cord to the center with a plug so I can daisy chain some outlets for the lights!

The wires for the upper deck I put some plugs on both sides of the wires running down one of the middle legs.
