Hallmark has a Spooky Greetings Treat Chest that's kind of nice. Has a battery operated sound box as part of it. Haven't seen it in person yet but was looking for a Hallmark store through their website and saw this on their site. Discounted price with the purchase of 3 Hallmark cards.

Here's the link to the special offer.

I want to check that out. Great way to give out candy. I have the spell book from years ago and they did a great job with it.

It looks big in the pic, but if you look at the candy in it, and compare, you can tell it's actually pretty small.

I'd maybe get it for $10 IF the darn message box wasn't fixed right on the lid - it's so ugly and ruins the whole affect! :( It even covers part of the bat.

I think the premise of the box is that it's closed, and the eye "watches" the kid who wants candy. Don't know if it's motion sensored or activated when it opens but it says those phases to kids who go for the candy (phases listed on site). At least that's my impression of it. For $10 probably not that bad; however, I couldn't see spending more for something cardboard--a plastic chest maybe. Certainly a good idea for anyone crafty who can rig a motion sensor and mp3. The site says it's 10-1/2 inches wide and could probably hold a decent amount of penny candy.

Needed a greeting card and ended up in a Hallmark store today. We don't have many of them in the area we now live in. It was my first chance to see the Spooky Treat Chest in person and I really liked it. I thought the quality of the box was better than expected and it worked flawlessly (audio starts when the lid is lifted). There are 2 "cracks" in the box (lid and front panel) where you can see one of those 3-D images looking at you (both are eyes in a format like those portrait pictures that change as you move positions around it). I thought the eyes looked pretty good and did seem to move with you. I was sold. In order to qualify for the special pricing of $9.95, I bought 3 cards--a halloween card for each of my 2 nieces and one for my parents (to thank them for making halloween so much fun for me when I was a kid). 2 of the cards were the $.99 variety and they still qualified towards the special offer.

BTW my receipt also had a $2 off coupon on it good towards my next purchase in that store. And I picked up a Free Hallmark 2010 Datebook for both me and my mom (a tradition I have with her--I try to send her one each year). I forgot to ask about the free plastic wallet calendar card that I've gotten in the past.

More pics from the store's Halloween area in my album.
