Last year I made a few tombstones for a graveyard setup in my front yard, this year I'm building a fence around it so it looks a little more put together.. Here are a few pics
I was going to do 4ft sections at first...
then I decided to make it into 8 ft sections
here it is "standing"
storgage for now...
ive only got that 8ft section done...still have about 90ft left!
Funny, I've been looking for a cheap and easy fence for this year's addition. This looks like a lot of leftover pieces or some made out of old pallets. I was looking at decorative fences or building one out of PVC pipe, but I'm running out of time. This might be quicker and easier than what I have been thinking about. Thanks!
No problem! I actually just went on craigslist and found free pallets or super cheap ones and just took all the slats off. Taking the slats off are a little more work? Time consuming than I thought it would be but I'm happy with the turn out so far.
Did you just use a 1x3 for the horizontal pieces then? Thoughts about putting it into the ground? I was thinking rebar or some garden stakes or something that you could just tie the fence to.
ahighto- haha yea that would of been nice, its taken me a couple of weeks to get around 8 or 9
jamesthegeek- i used 1x2's that i got at home depot in the "cull" bin. I got each 4ft 1x2 for 51 cents a piece. For putting them in the ground i cut about a 2 inch piece of 1/2 inch pvc and screwed it to the bottom of the panel every 2 feet, then hammered rebar in the ground and just slid the pvc over it... Seems pretty sturdy, ill have to see how it stands up to the wind and other neighborhood shenanigans
So I've been working on my fence some more and I decided to add more slats to make it a little more finished looking, but I need some of your guys help..I want to put columns up also but I cant decide what size to make them.. I have made this one but I think it looks a little to wide, what do you guys think?
Depends. If it's just a decorative column at the end of the fence, then I would shrink it some. However, leave it this size and put a gargoyle or something on top, and it might be just right!
Looks great! I still have a plastic fence with skulls on it from an old Halloween part years ago! Maybe you can do something like this in the future too.
Yeah, some sort of topper would be relatively quick and easy and give it a "finished" look without having to build a whole archway or elaborate sign. Damn, may have to steal that idea now!
Ive been working more on my grave yard fence, Ive got a few more panels built and two of the columns made. I still need to find toppers!! But here are a fee update pics..
I've posted this before in other threads but it's always worth repeating.
Home Depot (and I assume Lowe's as well) have fence boards that are split/cracked that others don't want for fences... so they simply throw them away. You can talk to the manager of that department and get those boards for a substantially discounted price.
After all... you're looking for damaged/cracked/split/dilapidated boards if you're building Halloween decorations anyway.
Spooky- this is true, i actually work at Home Depot lol.. We surprisingly dont ahve any damaged frnce panels right now lol but i did get the 1x2s holding the pallet slats together for 51 cents each!
