Well guys after loads of your great suggestions (thank-you) how to get rid of the dread red pointer and how to get access to the clock face, here is the finished result:). I managed to prize the face off with a bit of gentle persuasion, cut off the red pointer and added a bug, as the part where the red pointer went round still moved, the bug now moves with it. I have cracked the face a little, and add some cobwebs and dirt. I also added to the original pointers to make them look a bit more old fashioned. I think it blends in a lot better than it did originally. As usual, any suggestions for improvement most welcome :D First pic is the original clock, second is the aged clock.

The bug as a second hand is great. The only change I can suggest is that simply a grandfather clock would not have run on a quartz movement, so that would not be there, maybe you could print up a comedy makers name to stick over it? I think you have done a great job with this.
