I would love to get into making some giant props by carving them out of foam. You see them on movie sets and some other professional prop builder sites. My question is where do get them? Here are some examples of the type of things others have done. Any help appreciated.

Thanks Chewbacca, I'll check it out.

Lawrie, you can layer the sheets together but I wanted to see how affordable the blocks might be. Here is a picture of a Disney artist among some blocks they use to build sets and props.

Search Craigslist for "foam" "Styrofoam" etc. you might get lucky. I recently found 2 pallets of 4'x4'x4" Styrofoam. I picked it up from a commercial building site, it must have been left over from something.

Hadn't really thought about construction sites until this thread. There's a guy near me that has 5'x2.5'x12" blocks! HUZZAAHHH!

I just picked up 65 1x1x1.5 foot blocks from a local tractor supply company here in ohio. Some locations send them back to the manufacturer so you have to call around.

also.. look on craigslist. I found a couple of 2 x4x8 blocks for 75 bucks each.

If you look for foam suppliers you'll pay big money for blocks. I was quoted 56 bucks each for a 2x2x3 1# block.

also check roofing contractors. I've seen 4-6 inch sheets they throw away that you can laminate together with great stuff expandingfoam and carve.
