garage sales have started. i have gone to two, but no luck. my daughter went to 5 today and for $3.50 at one of them she scored me some sweet finds. the overstuffed bat had 2 inches in a seem that needs to be resewed. the candlelabra has never even been out of the package. the dress is bright orange. in the picture the orange doesn't show up well. and the hat is like brand new.

Nice haul! My friend called about a sale in her neighborhood that was full of gargoyles and what she kept refering to as "midevil" masks that hang on the wall. Her husband got on the phone and told me it was EVIL old style items like horned demons and stuff like they have hanging in old churches!!!!!!!
I sent him back immediately to get them but the sale had closed up for the day :(

This morning I found two 4 ft. skeletons dressed up as a bride and groom, a black raven, and two plug in jack-o-lanterns. My wife had sent me out looking for stuff for the patio but I was so surprised to find Halloween stuff!

I would, but my digital camera's on the fritz, but I'll describe it. It's kinda cutesy, but it did come with 3 C7 bulbs for my regular candle-shaped sockets. It has the face of a gentle old man on the main part of the tree, with the branches holding the bulbs. TBH, I only got it for the bulbs, I like the more traditional candelabra myself.

to bad about your camera, darn. it does sound really cool. i'm not a cutsy fan, but every once in awhile something stands out and cutsy works. the face in the tree sounds intriguing. even though you bought it for the bulbs, maybe it will grow on you. i've had things do that.

No luck...my friends were supposed to go back to the sale and they forgot to do it :(
Seeing some of the good items people are finding...do you think sellers tend to get rid of the halloween stuff early in the year as a sort of spring cleaning or are there better finds later on? I don't go out this early in the year only because the sales are few and far between but I sure don't want to miss out!

from what my daughter found, i would say spring cleaning. although today she hit 15 sales and not a thing. to bad when people list, they don't mention they have halloween. it would save some time. of course, then we would probably get beat there.
you must have been really down missing out on that stuff.
my daughter gave me 2 manniquin heads she got garage saleing last year for my easter present. they were in a box and i left it in the garage meaning to get them the next day. my husband looked in the box and thought junk so took it to the dumpster. i made him go get them back. they were still okay, but some people just have no sense of halloween at all.

Those are some nice finds! :D
I haven't really been to any sales anywhere, but in the next few weeks, I will be hitting the 'car boot sales'. Do you do those in the U.S? I suppose they're pretty much garage sales, just taking place on a car park or somewhere with lots of different people selling different things in one large-ish location.:p
I'm hoping to find a few things at them; as you say spring clearing might just mean some people are selling items that could be treasure to us Halloween fanatics!

garage sales are where you put stuff to sell out in your garage. sometimes others bring theirs so it is bigger. you advertise in the paper you are having one. we can pull it up on the computer all the sales and then there is a local map. we go house to house hitting their sales. once a year they have city wide garage. that is when most wait to really put out. we also have what we call flea markets. that's where everyone gets together in a large area and are allotted a small space to display their stuff. there use to be a town called devonia. the town is no longer there, but 3 times a year there is still a 2 day devonia flea market. it is huge. they sell eveything and even have an auction. there is also a little hut they make and sell food out of so you can be there the whole day. it costs $2.00 to get in. my two sisters, our kids, spouses, grandkids and i go together every year. there are 2 ladies that come there every year and they bring their home made jellies and pickles and pies. we hit them pretty hard. yum!
