Back in 2009 (or 2010 -- I can't remember exactly), I had purchased a couple of fog machines and used them for Halloween that year. After Halloween, I boxed them back up and haven't had an opportunity to use them again until this year. I set one up, filled it with juice, then plugged it in and turned it on. Within a few minutes, it was giving off a burning smell and putting out a fair amount of heat. Not wanting to set my deck ablaze, I unplugged it. Is this something I should be concerned about, or is it normal for a used fogger that's been sitting to act this way?

I'd test it out for a good 15 min on concrete or something that won't burn and watch it closely.

These things fail a lot (especially the cheap ones) but typically there's a burnt smell after storing them because of dust and other residue getting on the heating elements. If the smell doesn't go away after another test, then I'd get rid of it.
