I plan on powering the solenoid with your basic 12V 2A power supply.

This will be controled with arduino . I simply want to extend the piston making the props head look up as a scream sound track plays and then slowly retract with creepy laughter playing. At this point I'm more just looking for feed back on my parts list. Please let me know if I missed anything or could have picked better or cheaper parts.
Thanks!

Only thing I would advise is that cylinders and solenoids from China are dirt cheap for a reason. They may work out fine for you but they may not.

Well I did find some of the same products at us sellers for just a few bucks more. Guess it would be way easier to exchange it if I got a bad one.

I presently have 68 of these on various things and have never had an issue in 4 years with any of them. The cylinders are also very good.

That's great, glad they're working for you. I got a few solenoids from China a few years back that were supposed to be 1/8" NPT threads and guess what, they apparently don't know what NPT is because 1/8" fittings wouldn't work. As for cylinders, I stick with Bimba or Parker. Some of my props operate at 60 psi, I don't need a cylinder failing and flying apart.

I had to laugh after reading this thread and reminiscing about my first pneumatic prop circa 2004. Its truly amazing the kind of parts you can get now days.

I recommend you stick with 12VDC. I got a ton of great 24VDC Solenoid Valves really really cheap to latter find out that the power supplies were harder to find an a lot more expensive.

I'm surprised that no one has warned you this can become highly addictive. Like potato chips - I bet you can't build just one!

Good luck. Hoping to see photos/videos of what you come up with.
