There were multiple people asking about the Gemmy Executioner prop that will be available soon at http://www.spirithalloween.com
(not yet available at the time of this post)

I believe that this is exclusive to Spirit Halloween.

Executioner:

H" x L" x D" - 70.87 x 38.58 x 17.72 " 6ft Tall

Eyes Light Up Red

Head Moves left to right

5 sayings are:
•"Your next", (followed by a sinister laugh)
•"Some of you will find me on the cutting edge"
•"Let's cut to the chase"
•"It's just a little slice of life"
•"You know what they say, 'The first cut is the deepest'"

Is it me or do the legs look too long for the body?
yeah they do, but the picture might be stretched a little...look at him on page 16 of the Gemmy 09 thread, he looks more proportional. I don't think anyone would really notice, if all of the focus is on the uper half of the body.

Not sure why people get jazzed up about these Gemmy figures. Cheaply made stuff that inevitably breaks down, and then try to fix them or get parts and you're SOL. The majority of these I've seen at Halloween stores are broken after only a few hours of display use. It's your money but for $200+ I'd spend it elsewhere. The thing kind of looks like it was in the "Shrek" movie. Not very scary.

For the $$, provided you dont pay top dollar by shopping at Spirit or someplace like that it's not a bad price if you can get a few years out of it. Gemmy products are not known for their long life spans. If this prop was designed to be scary, the sound track took care of that. I'd rather spend my $$ on a Picoboo controller and a trigger and build my own. But, that's me!

it looks cool and would be a great addition to my torture chamber/ dungeon theme...but, yes it needs some motion.

I may have to take this and build it on an pneumatic armature I have lying around :D hmmmm, wheels grind in head.....

as to the legs there are bulging at the feet and waist, could be a little more padded out to not give them the stretched look, and it could be the photo

Larry, thanks for posting!
I can't say i'm impressed with this one. The proportions do look off, and while the glowing eyes are cool, the generic hood has no character to it. I understand the mechanics of the legs, but the stick-straight vertical legs make the figure look weak. I think nice sculpted arms would have added much to this, or a latex head with a partial mask.
This prop could be very easily built for much less money.

I will be posting some more pics of other stuff soon.

Personally, I have had great luck with Gemmy. I have quite a few of their bigger props and never had any problems with them except trying to figure out how to make Jason stand up. But that was my bad.

I can understand that people who can make animatronics prefer their homemade stuff. But myself, I do not have the ability to make a good looking Jason that moves as well as he does for a couple hundred $$. There are a lot of people of love them, some do not.

$200 and it just stands there?

I can understand that those of you who say you can't build things yourself. But shop around. There are better deals. Hint: don't put "Gemmy" in your search.

it's not $200 its $150. and that's still high, but keep in mind that SPIRIT stores have everything overpriced! I agree with shopping around! You can find the same Gemmy figures a lot cheaper online and at other stores.

Gemmy's figures are descent. If the price is right; it makes sense to buy them if you don't have the skills or time necessary to make your own animated decorations.

I don't particularly like the Executioner but IMO the crawling zombie looks good for the money.

I agree. I am done with the Gemmy props. They don't scare anyone and they break easy. I have a few myself and they are not for the serious haunter.

I disagree.

I have a Jason by Gemmy. It is great. It looks very scary with the right lighting.

I do not know if I am a fan of the executioner, i want to see a video of it cuz I know that even super scary props look only so good when it is pictured alone with a white background.

I wish I had the time to build home made animatronics. There are some really great vids here of the accomplishments of those of you who are skilled at applying this technology. But my work barely enables enough time for the construction of the Haunt.

So I like to start with, or include store bought stuff into much of our haunt. I buy my life size Gemmys on sale and then try to customize them to fit my scenes. For example, Frank with the bare brain wasn't "Frankenstein" enough for me, so I added a flat top skull cap and added a slit big enough to show the red brain light through.

Anyway, I like the look of the executioner and he would fit well in my Dungeon of death. Hope I can get a coupon for spirit store before Halloween.

Larry - don't get me wrong, I'm a BIG fan of Gemmy life-size props! So far we've got an Edwardian butler, Witch stirring a cauldron, Halloween Monster with glowing brain and heart (3 actually, the first one broke, Gemmy replaced it with one ALREADY broken, and then replaced that one with a third!), Mummy Bride, Shaking Welcomer, and two weeks ago scored a Dr. Shivers on Ebay!
My favorites are the generics - I've stayed away from the licensed characters because of the price. And the more animation/action/ sound and light effects, the better. But with Gemmy that means more to break...
A character like Dr. Shivers I wouldn't consider trying to build from scratch. But I think the Executioner is lacking, and building a similar prop wouldn't be that difficult. I've seen some very nice executioner masks that would be a great starting point...

It wouldn't take much to doctor the executioner. Im still deciding if the price is worth it, after the modification costs.

Here's what I would change:

1)add realistic hands
2)remove led eyes (is it just me or do red led's cheapen any halloween decoration)
3)change belt
4)paint axe edges bloody
5)up-light figure from behind

I have only seen the one picture and no video. I do not know enough about it to say that it is lacking or awesome for that matter. I will have to check it out on the site when it comes out.

I agree gemmy does have it's place for sure, but since i have started building my own props i dont think i would ever really want to buy one of the big figures. I'm not saying that to bash gemmy because i do like them, but for the money i know i can do way way better. I personally do not really like the executioner, i think he looks to comic bookie, But the dead lift zombie looks like it has potential, it will all depend on the price. If it is too expensive, then i will just build my own.
