So this is a first for me
Have you ever started your Halloween theme idea and then half way into it think na I don't want to do this and then change it ?

I think maybe the things I want to come together for gothic garden just are not there yet and lets face it if I am going to do it I am going to do it all out or not at all. so pushing this one out for another year as I keep collecting and making.

I have to feel the theme if that makes sence of it just will not be over the top.

what are your reasons for changing

Ask me about "The Garden of Unearthly Delights" - intended to be a Halloween spin on the famous Bosch painting - at your peril. I just couldn't work out how to use my props to pull it off, plus I envisioned having to explain the theme to each and every ToT. I ditched it at the last minute and did a wedding banquet instead.

Yep!!!! Almost every year...

Last year we were supposed to do Deathly Hallows (a dark Harry Potter) but after all the planning and even some purchasing and prop building I got cold feet fearing I had too little time to do it right. So we abandoned the idea and went with the easy solution...zombies...Hopefully we can revisit it in '15 or '16

Heck even this year I find myself getting distracted from my pirates theme by the idea of an old west saloon/casino night....I'm not going to jump ship just yet...but I have totally altered a few of my plans so I know I can reuse them (barrels, crates). It's just so hard to stay on track when there's so many good ideas being tossed around the forum and pinterest.

If you don't do your garden what theme are you thinking?

good to know i am not the only one. LOL

at first i was not going to do a party cause going on vacation first week of oct but the closer it gets i am like hell yes i need to do a party its my favorite thing lol

now if i would have not got ride of (yes kicking my butt on this all my dark alice props i would have done it again but since that is not a option not real sure lol

i had thought doing a gypse theme but again not sure i can get all the props i need.
i tried to get this wicked cool ship bed of craigs list and i would do pirates but someone beat me to it dang it.

i do have some new grim reapers i got for christmas so maybe will go raper style but you know how it is you want to go over the top and it has to beat the year before so at the moment i am still thinking. i start in sept ussualy setting up which i could then go on vacation come back and finish LOL

i have a chance to get this organ and it works

thought about giving it a make over like in pirates of carabien

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR! GET IT!

Seriously, that could be the linchpin of a display - funeral parlor, vampire lair, séance/fortune teller parlor, etc. etc. etc. I wouldn't touch it, it's fabulous as it is.

Just tossing this one out there...mainly cause I really want to do it but it's my hubby's least favorite of my "Dream Themes"...

Day of the Dead

1st I already know you love it
And 2nd it can be done easy and inexpensive. ...I love the idea of it being more of a celebration than a "Halloween party" but it would look awesome to have a cemetery with a really ornately dressed skellys in mourning (think black Spanish lace dress and vail). They could enter through the cemetery (accompanied with very sad almost haunting music) and be ushered to total Day of the Dead overload.

My plan (my backyard) was to fill my space with as much color as I can conjure up (lanterns, paper flowers, streamers, paper flags u name it). Have the alter b filled with pics, candles, flowers and the food/drinks for our guests....

You could probably use your reapers too...

Here's my board...

Day of the Dead would be cool! I'm doing that decorating theme as well but not having a party this year. Just want a break this year and am just decorating for myself. I can help you out with some ideas as well. I just bought some sugar skull making molds/ingredients online from mexicansugarskull.com over the past weekend so I'm excited to make some once it all arrives. Also, you might want to check Michaels as they have their spring floral on 50% off. I been picking up several bunches of marigolds over the past month as that's the main flower for that holiday but now at 50% off, getting more. There's also a bunch of craft ideas on YouTube from Crafty Chica that will help with inspiration, plus HGTV had a Block Party Halloween episode a few years ago with a Day of the Dead theme that looked awesome so check that out as well. You can still use a lot of your gothic garden décor that you originally planned on and just put some colorful tissue paper flowers and lots of skulls (from your collection) and candles. It will be awesome!! :) I also have a pinterest board for Dia de los Muertos.
