Duct Tape or Bail Money... unsure which!

2570 Views 32 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  StanFam3
We live in a small rural town in Georgia. Here, football is a religion. I kid you not.... it truly is. We have one high school here, and our team happens to be undefeated thus far. Our stadium sits inside the city limits.

The city declared ToT is tonight. The city police department is complying with this because somehow between them and the sheriffs office there just isn't enough feet on the ground to do both on the same night.... EVEN THOUGH not everyone lives within the city limits nor cares about football.

We are not complying at our house. ToT is ON HALLOWEEN gosh darnit! You don't change it because of football! Deny the kids a Halloween ON a Friday??!! What kind of insanity is this?

So... today, as I venture out, running last minute errands, I need duct tape over mh mouth or bail money. Maybe both. I had to get out of Big Lots quickly before a discussion about this topic went haywire.

LAWDY, LAWDY.... :D

LOL! What a decision - maybe both, you know, in case the duct tape somehow falls off at the most inopportune time?

I honestly don't know how I would feel in your situation. Maybe I would if our high school ever won a stinking game. No, really, they ARE that bad.

I kind of understand where they are coming from because I think school spirit can be so good for a small town. I love it when the whole town turns out to support the kids. But then there is HALLOWEEN! ugh. That is tough.

What will probably happen is you'll get trick or treaters on both nights, city council or no. I'd just roll with it.

Happy Halloween, hopefully not in jail. ;)

I'm almost done with my errands and can head to haunt central aka home. I'll be safe there!
If the parents are busy watching/attending the game, they won't be taking the kids around ToTing tomorrow, they will be doing it tonight.
I'd be flexible and do both: get the football crowd tonight and the Halloween purists tomorrow.

I don't care if they move the date, as long as I have enough time to setup. It's like when Halloween falls on a Sunday and everyone trick or treats on a Saturday...no big deal as long as everyone knows the date. I always thought Friday was a bad day for ToTing anyway. If I had my way, ToTing would be like Thanksgiving, the last Thursday in the month (Yes, I know Thanksgiving is technically the 4th Thursday) every year.....less schedule conflicts.

We will be handing out candy tonight. BUT, music/fog/costumed characters won't be out in the haunt till tomorrow. Just no way to do it two nights in a row.

And this is what makes our country so cool! We can have so many differing opinions. :D

I'm a purist -- can't help myself. Halloween is the 31st. PERIOD. This is when you trick or treat. We don't move any other holiday because of something like a football game. That's just how I feel about it. ;)

Me too. I'd grudgingly have a "halloween" when I was forced to by our overlords, but I'd have another halloween on the real halloween.

I don't know how into halloween I would get if it wasn't on October 31st. The day itself is special. It's the day the veil between the living and dead is lifted; the dead are still trapped behind it today. I'd feel so cheated.

Sort of like when it is your birthday and everyone forgets, or there is an emergency, or people are traveling. Trying to redo your birthday on another day, or having late Christmas, just is sort of wrong feeling to me.

I have seen that some towns are having Halloween on November 1st. Come on, man! Why! It is already November for the Great Pumpkin's sake! Why does everything have to be scheduled, and convenient?

I am not saying this to poke and disagree with people who have differing opinions. I know we all have our own opinions, and we all have our right to express them.

The horror of halloween not on halloween is new to me. I have lived in different states and have always had halloween on halloween.

In the town I grew up in Trick or Treat was always on the last Saturday of the month of October reguardless of what day Halloween fell on. ToT was also from 1pm to 3pm.

1 to 3pm? What were the reason/s that ToTing had to occur during the day?
Well, ToTs are arriving. Not in huge numbers. I'm trying not to be sad. I shucked on witch costume.... but I'm the only one here tonight. I sure hope kids come out tomorrow. Fog machines will be going, peeps in makeup, music, popcorn machine.... ugh. Please let them come tomorrow.

I am so sorry that you have to have a non October 31st Halloween! I am sure you will get kids tomorrow! I am sad for you too, but at least you have good weather, and ToTs.

I know that all true Halloween people are with you both nights. We do understand.

This is a snippet of the front page article in our bopunk newspaper about Halloween and ToTs... it's THIS attitude that has caused our buttons to be so pushed over this whole shebang. Welcome to very small town USA!

That's some BS right there. So basically it didn't matter, it was just convienent...see this why I don't care for sports or die hard sports fans. They have this elietist attitude about themselves and non sports related things....you know..for a TRICK...it be a shame if something happened to their field.... Lol(not really, but really)

Exactly!

And since when did we have to ask permission to celebrate a holiday???!!! Football IS a religion here. This is why boys who can barely read still can graduate high school.
