88, plus six more with washers. The number of screws isn't the problem, as it's well made and very sturdy once put together. The problem is that the screws are just -this- much too small for the holes they go into, so they bite into the plastic connectors well but it is very difficult to get them in. Also, the screws aren't a standard size, so a regular screw driver doesn't fit them well and we were afraid a drill would strip them. It did take a couple of hours, and there were two of us.
Both my Dad and I have the (remains of) blisters from this thing. Awesome prop, bad little screws. Could have been put together with the "push button" type metal rods like the Reaper of Souls, Corn Stalker, or my parents' old NordicTrak use to make setup much simpler. If you get this, you will not want to ever have to take it apart for storage.
