A few years ago when I attended Nightmare New England (pro haunt attraction), they lit up a section of trees with a very cool lighting effect. I'll briefly describe it but I doubt I'll be able to find the device that produced it. It would shoot random white points of light at the canopy and then these lights would quickly trickle down the trees and disappear.

Anyway, I have some large trees in my back yard that are also visible when kids are walking down the street to my house. My bedroom window is perfectly positioned to point a DJ light at these trees. Does anybody have a recommendation for a relatively inexpensive (presumably laser) light? It would be great if it could enhance the overall spooky feel, but primarily I'm just looking to create some visual interest, and less of a typical DJ 'Party' vibe.

I think any of the Gemmy projector lights could do a decent job of it, really, depending on what you're going for, how far from the window the tree is, whether the tree normally drops it's leaves prior to halloween or not, etc.

Depending on your definition of budget, maybe the Chauvet mini laser?

I've got like, nineteen tall pines in my yard, and I plan to shoot one of those Christmas "Points of Light" up into them this Halloween for a vaguely similar effect to what you describe.

Advantage with those Gemmy projectors (or similar brands), like UnOrthodOx suggested, is that you can get waterproof/weatherproof ones and can install them outside to 'up-light' the tree.

I went to a haunted hayride at a campsite last year and everyone decorated their campsite and would jump at the hay wagon in costume as we passed by....There were sections that were pretty dark and I kept seeing thousands of tiny dots moving in the trees so I finally asked someone what that was and they said lot's of campers bought those star shower lights and aimed them at the tree tops....The ones I saw I could have sworn were blue dots but when looking them up was mainly red and green like this one https://www.homedepot.com/p/Star-Shower-Motion-Laser-Light-Projector-10639-6/206946761

If you want a trickle down effect get one of the gemmys and point it at a mirror that slowly rotates on horizontal axis and reflects onto the trees from top to bottom.

I do the laser lights in green aimed at the trees in front of my house. the effect is wonderful! Just be careful to point ONLY at the tree so as not to have the lights hit some poor TOT in the eyes! I control this by using aluminum foil or black wrap and carefully shuttering off areas where I don't want light spill.
