And... I want to set it off when the people reach the porch which is our "decontamination area". Will this work or does anyone else have an easier solution?

Dont get too electrical on me folks....just not to good with the Ac/Dc....

I think you could plug the light into one of the hacked motion sensor lights. Kinda like this one: http://www.halloweenforum.com/tutorials-step-step/128301-motion-detector-prop-controller-hack.html Aim the motion sensor toward where people will walk in.

for non electeronically inclined - if you get a Motion sensor light - connect the power via a spliced extension cord for pluggin in. The get those round sockets that screw into a light socket - plug in you light - and you should be all set for motion activation....
