De-lurking

Hi from Oregon.

I've lurked for probably 5 years, since before my horizons extended from inside/porch to ever expanding cemetary. Y'all turned me on to YouTube prop build tutorials that opened up so many possibilities and gave me SO many ideas, like the oogly pumpkin (h/t Stiltbeast Studios tutorial) and faux fire down there ?? (And an inferiority complex, but that's another story.) After reading thousands upon thousands of posts, I have a question.

How many of you would keep growing your displays if you hadn't had -not one- TOT in 30 years and your house couldn't be seen from the road? Asking because I'm getting old, and seriously thinking about just leveling out. The only one I'd disappoint by not changing it up every year is the mail lady, but then again she's getting long in the tooth too and those 'March to September Haunt Supplies' packages are wearing us both out.

Welcome and happy you finally joined us! :D
Love your decorations!!

To answer your question... depends on who you're haunting for. I love seeing the kids and adults enjoying our display, but really - it's aallll for ME!

As long as I still enjoy it, the decorations go up. Some years, there's a full on crazy Halloween Town inside and out, other years there might just be a lone skeleton and a few JoLs in the window. Depends on circumstances and enthusiasm. :)

Yep, I agree with Frankie's Girl. Our house can't be seen from the road and we never get TOT's so our Haunted Graveyard Show gets set up in our basement. It's about 30 minutes long with lots of animation, talking/singing characters, lightning and thunder, music tracks and SFX. My wife decorates the rest of the house. We have friends and family over in small groups, watch the show and then have coffee and homemade treats. We start right after Labor Day and go all the way up to Halloween. It stretches out the season for us and we get to spend quality time with everyone. For us it's much more enjoyable than the Xmas season, everyone seems to be in a much more relaxed state. There's also a lot less stress on me because none of our props are out in the weather, everything is inside.

*puts basement on the wishlist*

I think maybe I'm just feeling like a Halloween hoarder. Taking stock and asking myself why I keep doing more. That and afraid the kids'll sell it all at a yard sale when I die for like, a buck fifty. Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh......

Now that, is terrifying. ?
