was thinking of using john doe prop in fabric coffin. Has anyone tried anything similar? ideas needed for inexpensive props for maze at home. I am not really mechanically inclined. thanks in advance

Yeah that'll work just fine. His head pushing up the lid may look kinda funny. I would just leave it open. Just remember those popup coffins look cheap up close so keeping it at a distance will help.

As long as the prop is not catching on anything and fits loosely in the coffin it should be fine....The gears in spirit props are known to break easily so you don't want to put extra strain on them unnecessarily....You could also make a coffin out of cardboard and tape and throw some creepy cloth along the viewed inside and outside edges....If there isn't much budget then low lighting and a Halloween sound effects CD goes a long way....Just highlight a couple things with lighting (like your coffin) and your good to go!....ZR
