As far as the shirt goes, I would hit as many thrift and resale shops as possible. It's hit or miss, but it's a fairly basic design that shouldn't (knocking on wood, here) be too difficult to find.
For the tiger, Toys R Us has several large plush tigers, a bit more realistic than Hobbes, but it would give the idea. I gotta say, this is a fantastic idea for a costume, though! Always loved me some Calvin & Hobbes!
