Hi,

Had to share this. Today I received some parts from china that deliver great sound as soon as you apply power.
total was 7 dollars.

tested with a computer speaker had great sound and loud enough to make the wife yell at me.
There is about a 2 second delay before sound plays but all and all I was very impressed and will order many more.

Just put your mp3 on micro chip or usb and when you apply the power the mp3 starts playing. can add batteries for actors.

For 7 dollars free shipping and a 2 or 3 week wait, I do not think it can be beat.

I do not think they want to neglect quality sound, I think it is a matter of budget and knowledge. Unless you had electronics and electrical training, the learning curve for the average DIY haunter is steep and a mistake costs money.

Good sound costs more than many of the props. Basic DIY control is an old MP3 player set on a loop with powered computer speakers triggered by turning on power with a remote electric switch or PIR. That solution has it's limits including not being able to start a routine from the beginning.

If you are on a budget and need that prop to speak, laugh or moan from the beginning of a routine...7 bucks, plus a few other things you have laying around any way: old speaker, trigger, power cord and USB.

happy haunting

LOL... very good example of poor sound effects.... seems like the sound player is good.... just when they did the free download of sound effects they googled beagle instead of pissed off angry beast..... this is very poor use of a great search engine... shame lol.

Hi Mike,

Tested it and it does remember the volume. I do not have a 3 watt speaker to check the on-board 3 watt amp but I am relying on the 15 watt amp to deliver the amplification to passive satellite speakers. This has had great results with more volume than a music angle.

Music angles are 3 watts. I have tried them but found once outside with ambient backgrounds and crowd noise that the sound gets lost or missed. I would rather turn down the volume than to find I cant turn it up.

I have ordered many parts to test and play with. Once I find the good solutions I will put in a big order while I still have time.

I am also leaning towards Arduino solutions and am not sure how easy it will be to use this mp3 player with that setup.... I could always use one of the relays to set it off but will still have that 2 second delay. Have lots of items ordered so it will be a fun summer of testing and building.

For spirit props with cheap disk sound.... the amp is perfect add on.

Just ordered the Catalex Module to play with. It is the only part missing to follow your banger box recipe.
waiting on an 8 channel relay, should work for testing.

It sounds like you have some fun projects going on!

lol,,, yes lots going on and tons of ideas but I promised myself one thing at a time.

Savage,

I was thinking guitar amps for some of the things that need excessive volume, cheap and work good. if you need something small, try one of these amps with a hifi or satellite speaker... for 3.50 it is a great little toy.

here is a demo on youtube

I also tried one of these but was more happy with my little amp.

yes, the volume I get from this simple amp is very good. but if your skull is far away you might need something that throws (like the guitar amp) ..... for the money it is just to get one and test if it fits your needs. you can always use it to improve some other prop. remember, how it sounds in the house during testing is not what you will get outside....test outside.

I run a full show with 4 skulls, 2 rats and a bird. The staged show is for a loud crowd waiting to get into my haunt. For that I use an active JBL EON.... costly for DIY haunts but I use them for my occupation.

hope this helps,

Hi,
I do not think you will get these boards in time. it takes 2-3 weeks to mail.
the board does have buttons but when power is applied it is the first song that starts, you would have to press buttons manually.
