This is the result of my build thus far. Several layers of paper mache and now a single layer of plaster wrap. I don’t mind that the ribs show but, what would work best to smooth out the surface a bit and yet remain somewhat durable?

I would suggest using either a premixed mortar or drywall mud if you want to smooth it out. However, I think if you just put on a coat of drylok it will probably hide most of the seams and add a nice texture as well. And it will be waterproof!

You could also try paper mache clay it will be lighter than the mortar. You can make it yourself here is a link to the instructions and recipe from youtube. I would seal it after it is completely dry.

Went with drylok and ant-skid addictive. Single coat and looking much better. Another coat and then on to skulls and bones, then paint! Thanks for the advise!
