Looking for some advice prior to starting project. I am going to build a rotating wheel of death to have in my CarnEvil theme. Has anyone built one before? I am going to use a smaller motor so looking to make it light weight, something like wood frame with cardboard for the wheel. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let me know.

On your base or stand, I'd run 2 flange mount or pillow block bearings back to back several inches apart. Run the shaft for your wheel though the bearings and they will support all of the load from your wheel. Your motor should have an easy time at that point turning your wheel even if it is made from wood.

You could also glue rigid foam board together then cut your circle from that. Post some pictures I'm thinking about doing a carnival theme next year.

My dad built me a stationary wheel for photos, its not a cool as a rotating wheel- but everyone LOVED it-
