So I just went and stocked up on candy for this year's ToT's.

My question for yall is how much do yall normally buy and how much do you give each ToT? Do you just reach in and give them a handful? Let them reach in and get their own or give each a set number of pieces?

Just curious as to how everyone else does it.

I just got 425 pieces for $20 and I dont know if that will be enough.

Thoughts?

We get right at 500 kids and I plan for two pieces per kid. So, yeah, I need 1000 pieces. I used to get all fun sized candy bars but that got too pricey. I now get a mixture of everything from bubblegum to skittles and a few chocolate bars. I never let them help themselves or I'd run out or go broke.

I only get about 150 kids. Which is huge for my tiny little neighbourhood.

I let the little wee ones choose their own. I have small chocolate bars for them. Smarties (chocolate buttons - not the American candies) are a favourite with 3 year olds :)

For the kids who will grab everything in the bowl, the 6 to 10 year olds, I give them either a full sized chocolate bar or three small ones. I put it in their bags.

For the 10+ year olds, I may or may not let them choose. I usually let a group of girls choose, they are very good about not being greedy. Boys, in a group, no way. I put it in their bags.

I only buy chocolate. Today I spent about $150 on chocolates. I try to buy a little extra, but I am usually scraping the bowl by 8pm. No one is allowed to open the choccies before Halloween. By pain of death. :)

I do not buy cheap candy. All that stuff usually doesn't get eaten. I remember as a kid and when my lads were TOTing, all those odd candies like wax lips, those horrible halloween kisses, hard candies, stale bags of chips (dear gawd, check the sell by dates!) that got thrown out. My neighbour hands out juice boxes and granola bars. She is lucky her house hasn't been TPed.

If I had 500 kids, I would probably still buy the same things. I want to make halloween AWESOME for kids!

I don't get many ToTers...so I make up treat bags every year. It's a little different each year as to what I put in them, but there is always some kind of chocolate, then either more chocolate or some kind of yummy, fun non chocolate candy, then they will get things like stickers and a toy in each bag. This year I went with all fun sized candy bars, Halloween sticker sheets and glow in the dark bat toys. I like to add in non food items in case the kids can't have candy for some reason...or they have parents who steal all their candy, lol, then they will, at least, have something they can have. They all get bagged in fun Halloween treat bags...this year, I chose zip lock ones rather than twist ones.

ok so Im doing something way different than usual and I was also wondering how many pieces of candy to put inside individual bags. Ive never done that before.

I got fresh made individual cotton candy and am putting those along with some candy in treat bags. ( If you need cotton candy pm me and Ill tell you where to get the tastiest cotton candy youve ever had. )

So I put the cotton candy in then;
1 peep marshmellow (individual wrapped)
1 baggy sour patch kids
1 something peanut buttery (like reeses or butterfinger)
1 each of 2 different flavors of saltwater taffy.
1 gooey marshmallow eyeball
1 something chocolate
1 skittles pack

so about 9-10 pieces of candy that includes the cotton candy. Is this too much? I usually hand out about 3-4 pieces per person (adults/kids) and I can have anywhere from 30-150 handouts, plus repeaters.

We've given out fun sized bars for the past several years. On sale they run two bags for $5.00. Kit Kats will have 21 in a bag. I bought ten bags a few days ago giving me 210 bars, costing me $25.00, which was all I had on me at the time. The forecast looks good, which means we'll likely have 600-700 TOTs, so we'll buy at least 20 more bags. Each kid gets one bar, but we also have a walk through haunt so the candy for many of them is just fluff. They want to go through the haunt!
Full size, one each ~600 kids.

I've got a cauldron full of candy and each gets around 3 or 4 pieces each. We give out well over 1000 pieces.

We have to hand the candy out carefully, as we get close to 1000 kids each year. We get neon glow bracelets @ 100 for about 12 dollars. I get 10 cans of those each year. I got 6 bags of 300 each dum dums. I got 12 boxes of 40 in each wonka fun dips. I got 4 large bAgs of 90 each warheads for the teenagers we get every year. We get a ton of teenagers! And 99 percent of them are fully costumed!

We hand out a bracelet and a candy at the start of the evening, and then become more generous or stingy as the evening progresses. I am so jealous of the full size candy givers! I bet kids feel like they hit the jackpot at your homes!

Yikes...that's $120 in glow sticks right there...let me help with that, we get ours here. Buy the 1000 bulk pack at $60.

We always start out thinking we'll have enough for 2 pieces each, but since we get 1,000 or more ToTers, we wind up giving out 1 piece each. That feels wrong, but only so much you can do with that many kids.
I went all out this year got candy/gum spent 125.00 and then i also got small bags of chips to put in loot bags, we usually get 150 tot, I hope more this year since its friday ! although our weather is looking like rain, but its early yet!
I Have 660 Ready To Go.....

We hand out Reeses, Snickers, Kit Kats, M&M's, Butterfingers, Milky Ways, Twix, and Twizzlers. Luckily for the twenty or so trick or treaters we get, when they ask me how many they can take, my response is always "Take as many as you can hold in two fists!" There are two dentists living on my street so we try to give them as much sugar as they can get as I'm sure they're giving apples out down the road ;D
I only get about 25 Tot's, hoping for a few more this year since its on Friday nite, I give them handfuls, probably 4-5 pieces each. I got skittles, reeses, payday, m&ms, snickers, whoppers, sweet tarts and kit kats (I think that's all). I'm also going to fill a bowl at the front desk of our office as well. I would scale back quite a bit if I got as many kids as you guys do.
What do you guys do with the leftover candy/chips? Last year was a rain out so I we got no tot'ers, I couldn't keep the candy in the house because I would have given myself a case of type 2 diabetes by the end of the night so I walked over to an office building near me and tossed it all into the dumpster.
If its a weekday I bring it to work, it's going to be a long weekend...
