Black Mirror http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2085059/

Stumbled onto this on Netflix last night.

The pilot was SO DAMN BRITISH they almost lost me. Found the whole idea rather silly. Maybe I just don't get the whole fascination with the royal family or something, whatever. If the second episode didn't auto-start I would have never looked back.

That second episode was like the best Twilight Zoneish show I've seen since the 80's run of the zone. I suppose the series will be hit and miss with the random nature of the episodes, but it's worth a watch if you like the Twilight Zone/Outer Limits type shows.

You have to look at it in American terms & it makes more sense. What if any President's kid was kidnapped? Or say, some beloved actor's kid, like Tom Hanks kid or Suri Cruise.

I still don't see the nation demanding any official to bow to a terrorists' demands like that. I sure as hell wouldn't be watching either the internet video of the demands or the resulting video, either. I just plain don't care enough about celebrity gossip to understand, maybe. Kidnap the President's kid, ask the President to do something, I can understand the father's anquish in a decision. Kidnap Suri Cruise (or insert unrelated child of your choice here) and demand the President do something just makes absolutely no sense to me why the populace would get in such an uproar to the point of the secret service 'not being able to guarantee his protection". Really?

I get that episode was mostly going for shock value. It didn't shock me, and the whole setup didn't make any sense to me as I couldn't identify in the least. Just chalk it up as a British thing and move on. I get a lot of Americans get all wierd with the royal family, too, after that wedding everyone wouldn't stop talking about forever... Whatever, just not my cup of tea. Glad I didn't immediately have the remote at my disposal and got hooked on episode 2.

The whole series is a hit or miss but still better than another remake or "reimagining." I suggest continuing the rest if you haven't finished.

I actually liked the first episode; I kept imagining "what would I have done?". I've only watched two or three more episodes after that (so far), but I think I like it enough that I'll continue.

I watched the episode Fifteen Million Merits with my boyfriend a while back and I highly recommend it. The whole thing opens a lot of questions about the porn industry, fatphobia, and morality. It's not necessarily something you should watch on a first date (like we did) but it is really interesting. I haven't seen any of the other episodes.
