I've been using the outdoor rated liquid nails, it's not fun to sand or carve, but walmart has the best price if thats what you will use.

looks good, my only suggestion is peel the film before you glue it down next time.
I guess it depends on how your edges come together, if you are joining at corners permanently and have to sand, it makes for a pain in the arse. and paint won't adhere well if you paint the inside.

I'm not having the problem and I'm using the same stuff, maybe it was a bad batch or something, I've never seen it do that and been using on props for 4 years now.
