I did this with a cheapo clock mechanism available at craft stores or thrift stores in used clocks.
You need two things to make it work:
1. a motor that turns the right direction.
2. a drive mech to attach the motor shaft to the time adjustment wheel on the clock mech.

P.S. I wore out the clock mech in a season. Need to make another one.

I found a small synchronous motor. Then glued a piece of 1/4" air tubing to the thumbscrew (adjusting wheel) on the back of the clock mech.
This fit on the motor shaft.
Mounted the motor and clock mech in the clock face. Pretty simple. The hardest part is getting the motor connected to the clock mech.

I think it was from Micheals. Any craft store will carry them.
Look for one that accepts the hands you want and get the hands at the same time. That way they fit.

I need to make a new one for next year seeing mine wore out.
I can take some photos and post when I get around to this repair.

These motors turn either CW or CCW. When energized they turn one way, then when turned off and then back on, they turn the other way.

In the lower right pic you can see the adjustment wheel. This is where I epoxied the drive (tubing) that connects the motor to the clock.
