Hi,

I was wondering if there are more modern :D and maybe even open source software that is doing automation like "Visual Show Automation (VSA)"

Thanks for the info guys!

When I look at the links, I am getting a feeling the software you linked are focused on lighting.

The thing that got me interested was this project "https://makezine.com/projects/halloween-time-machine/"

He is using it in combination with servos, video etc.

Plug-ins allow Vixen to control a variety of devices. I use Vixen for servo control with the EFX-TEK HC-8.

Yes, Vixen and xLights are primarily for lighting, but will do servos as well. Routines in xLights can be uploaded onto a Pi which could control DMX devices and servo controllers as well as output video.

Gil, one of the programmers of xLights has incorporated skulltronix and similar moving skulls and it can also import VSA files.
This is a video demonstrating the skull model and VSA import http://videos.xlights.org/xlights-dmx-skull-model-and-vsa-import-features_4f78dad30.html

That project you linked @Incolor is impressive, using something like VSA while more expensive may be worth it as it's more specialized.
