Hey all,

November is one of my favourite times to prop build. Next year we want to have an Alien inspired room so here we have;

The face hugger;

The egg;

The xenomorph;

The face hugger is a wire frame, with lots of tape, latex & paint
The egg is a old fashioned 'paper mâché over a big balloon' with great stuff & paint
The xenomorpgh is a big job. He's 7 foot tall, ABS frame, lots of latex, details & paint. The head is a Distortions mask I had and really makes the prop. It's a bit of cheating I guess, but the head shape is really difficult.

Not sure of the layout yet, but I may try to have the face hugger pop out of the egg using some kind of mechanism. That's TBD.

Question: The xenomorph is general shown to be mostly black. I went with brown-ish. My concern was that straight black would hide all the details, but it may be scarier.

Depends entirely on the lighting. Take pics under your intended lighting and decide based on that.

I think brown was the way to go for detail (such a nice job!) and agree with UnOrthodOx on the lighting. With so many great LED colored lighting options out there I can see so many of them working well with a brown creature like that depending on how much of him you want to reveal.

Aliens was a movie I remember jumping in my seat watching at the theater. I would so totally be afraid to walk through your haunt and then come face to face with that guy. If you turn a corner and see him in dim, colored lighting that is strobbing, I think you would have kids and some adults stopped in their tracks.

If it were me I would have some green dripping blood hanging from overhead somewhere. Wonder if you can create some with some type of string/rope and some fluorescent gel that would harden into shape so it could represent a stream of liquid with a larger glob at the lowest point (like a natural drip you'd see). I knew when I saw that dripping acid blood I was in for a wild ride at that theater!

Aliens was such a great movie and the xenomorpgh was unlike anything I had seen before.
HR Giger was a unique artist to say the least

Amazing. I hope visitors will be able to connect with the film franchise. It's been a long time...I recall leaving the theatre thinking the upcoming Star Trek movie could never touch what Ridley Scott had done. I was right. ALIEN was a generational film.

Okay. Some how, you gotta rig a pond pump into the mouth of the xenomorph, and use watered down glycerin so it's thick gooey and really shiny.

This just HAS to happen. Ima do some pump tests with a few old pumps, to see how thick it can get and still pump through.....

I don't think it's cheating. You have a vision of what you want to create and you're using any tool that gets you to that place. In the end the people who see your magnificent display won't be taking notes on what they think was homemade and what they think was purchased. They'll just be loving every terrifying minute of it.

Alien came out in 1979, so yeah that's awhile back I guess. Alien: Covenant is a 2017 movie. Other than Aliens, none of the others were quite as good IMO.

A pneumatic air/water 'spitter' would be interesting too.
