On this St. Patrick's Day, when we in the US reflect on the invaluable contributions the sons and daughters of Erin have bestowed upon us, I find it fitting to take a moment here, among my fellow ghouls, and offer my humble thanks to the steadfast Irish immigrant and their hardy offspring.

Thank you, ... for Hallowe'en.

Granted, others brought their own traditions of the fall, fear and the restless dead to our shores, and we certainly have remade the holiday here in the States, but we wouldn't have quite the creepfest we have today if it hadn't been for the Irish.
